Feeling Guilty Okay.. I'm feeling horrible. This is the first night that Oliver is staying away from me. He is is staying at my moms house about 20 minutes down the road. I went out for dinner and had my mom babysit my baby ... he is staying tonight bc she has dogs and I'm trying to help him socially. My mom just called and she said he is still waiting by the window waiting for me :( I'm going crazy... am I doing a bad thing?? |
Oh, boo-hoo. I'd feel just like you.:( As long as he is ok there and doesn't cry and keep your mom up, I thinks it is a good idea. If you ever had to be away overnight, he wouldn't be so upset, plus he is learning to have doggie friends around.:D |
aww i'm sorry. how did he end up doing? i bet he was happy to see you again. i remember doing this when I had to leave my Sadie at my aunts for FOUR DAYS. it broke my heart. they said she just waited by the door and then finally curled up and went to sleep by her overnight bag and blankies. then she warmed up to them and started to snuggle with my Uncle and they sent me pictures all the time. |
I know what you mean...I hate to leave mine, sometimes we stay home eat leftovers cause we don't want to put axel up again, I always feel so guilty! good luck hope he did good! |
Of course you are NOT doing a bad thing. You are doing one of the tough things in parenthood (whether for a pet or a people child) -- letting them grow some independence. It is good for your Oliver to socialize and be away from you a little while. It's all good! :D I know you will worry a little the first few times, even when you know your mom will take very good care. But think of how loving you both will be when you pick him up! A little absence makes the heart grow fonder is an old and true saying. He will be fine and so will you. Enjoy you night out and give lots of kisses when you go get him. |
Oh, I feel you. I am in South Carolina right now and I LOVE it here but boy do I miss my boy. And I've still got three more nights. I know he is happy at my dads house but still... I miss him. :( My little brother let me talk to him via iPhone FaceTime tonight, LOL!!! |
No! Just the opposite in my mind...You are doing a great thing! I know this sounds horrid but what if something happened, you had an emergency trip to take, had to go to the hospital for a couple days...NOW is the time to have him do an overnight and continue every once in awhile to get used to it being okay and you bringing him back home...not later when it's an emergency or the real deal...and better your mom's and with other dogs than a kennel boarding situation. Go you for doing it perfectly! :cheer: Same as with child IMO. I had mine go to preschool a couple hours three times a week I went with at first, then by themselves, then daily then I went back to work...you are doing things the ideal way IMHO. |
Thank you so much everyone!! I just checked with my mom and he is officially sleeping!:) She said he waited by the door until about 10 but her Golden's encouragement to play finally took over and then he was exhausted. I will be there first thing in the morning to pick my lil guy up!! I can't wait to see him!! |
I agree its a good idea. And for you 411 they never stop looking out of the window! When I leave and DH is home with Pnut, DH tells me that Pnut kept looking out of the window, pacing back and forth, layin on my pillow.. The love for you never stops :D |
