If you want a purebred go to a breeder not a pet store where you support Greeders, irresponsible breeders at best but mostly PUP MILLS!...

FYI many pet store pups are mixed and you don't even know it...

This type of logic hurts my brain!!!

Thank you for posting this! This is disgusting! :(:( She obviously doesn't know the love of a companion animal. I think, to her, it is about her right to BUY, grrrrr. She seems ignorant of the facts.
The facebook link is good but i doubt she reads it but maybe., So here is a way each of us can directly bombard them with our thoughts and perhaps implore her to do some research on the horrors of puppymills, shelters, and why they shouldn't be sold in stores.

It says that, "She noted that while many will recommend that a shelter dog be adopted, she did not want anyone to tell her that she could not buy a puppy from a pet store, if she wanted to. . . .She hinted at “knowing what you are buying when you buy a purebred” – which seemed to mean that you don’t necessarily know what you are getting if you adopt a mixed breed dog from a shelter.



It sounds like she just doen't understand that nobody is saying that she can't buy a purebred. Many people do not know that pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills, she may not understand that it's okay to get her dog from a reputable breeder, just not someone who would sell their dog to a pet store. I use to be very ignorant about this as well.

I think she is like way too many people -- woefully unaware of the horrible abuse that goes on in puppymills and that puppymills are what supplies most pet shops. She seems to be comparing shelter dogs & purebreds without understanding there are places OTHER than pet shops to purchase a purebred dog.

I have to admit not understanding the depths of depravity some breeders are capable of before coming to Yorkietalk. I knew puppymills were a bad thing and vaguely remember thinking they kept dogs in cages all the time. So, I too, was uninformed as to WHY it is so important NOT to support puppymills OR the pet stores who buy their pups.

Unfortunately Whoopi has worldwide attention with The View and should take that responsibility more seriously -- think and research before you speak, Whoopi! Hopefully someone has sent her some footage of puppymill abuse like I have seen here. I really had NO concept of how badly breeders could actually treat their dogs until I saw the videos. Words do not make near the impact or understanding that those videos did! It makes a lot of sense NOW but when you have no idea of the atrocities going on in puppymills, you just don't get it.

I sure hope we see a retraction or at least an apology for not understanding the impact of her words soon!

Exactly, this may end up being a good thing, with many people being educated.

I know I'm ignorant to many things...many of you have pointed them out for me on here LOL...

When you are on national television and you know voicing your opinion against a political issue (the pup mill bill banned pet store pup sales) you had better know what you speak of...obviously she didn't or she doesn't care...

Then again her comments about Michael Vick"...he's from the deep south it's not his fault it's the culture there."

I believe in responsibility and education no matter where you are from...if you step on a platform you better believe what you are preaching from it...

I just can't afford her any slack for the irrevocable damage she has done in spreading misinformation and supporting by default pup mills.

I really hope this becomes an issue of major public education...so we all need to make a big stink about it immediately to push it in that direction now...

Idealistically Whoopi would go back on after touring pup mills and following the lives of dogs there right to the very pet stores...then later to the pounds where so many pure breds also end up...hm and a little exert on DNA testing "pet store purebreds" also...

Don't forget-she defended Mel Gibson, too! I loved Whoopi, but now I just question her judgement.:eek:

I actually saw that the other day I was pretty shocked... I thought Whoopi would know better
