Oliver's First Day Out I'm kind of worried because we decided to let our 5 month old shih tzu out on the deck before he's completed his vaccinations. I've never done this before I usually wait until they have all of their shots before letting them out. Yesterday Oliver ran out onto the deck and he was having such a good time we didn't want to spoil his fun. Does anybody let their puppies out before they have had all their shots or did we make a big boo boo. |
I really dont know!! Im sure someone will though! I didnt take mine "out" to petsmart and such until he was older, but your own yard I dont think would be that big of a deal...now watch me get smacked on the hand for saying that!!!:) |
If your yard is fenced its fine because other dogs wouldnt be getting in so no dog diseases in your yard. If its not your taking a chance |
Just as long as there are no other dogs on your deck or yard I don't think there would be a problem. |
ask your vet, my vet said unless i was 100% certain there was no parvo in my yard/ground do not let puppies outside until all vaccinations are done! needless to say any puppies i have do not go outside until then. you are probably ok since he just went on the deck but if it was me i wouldn't take the chance. |
I started taking Jackson out in our own yard at 9 weeks old because of potty training. My vet was fine with this so long as I did not take him to public parks, pet stores, etc. |
I brought Apple home @ 11/12 weeks, and took her right out in the back yard, to potty...To be honest, I didn't realize this was such a huge issue, 'till I started coming on here...I've raised lots of pups, over my rather long life, w/no issues...Not saying this is the right thing to do....However, @ 5 months, your baby has probably had a couple of DHPP shots, right? I think it'll be alright... |

I took Calleigh in our own back yard when she arrived here at 12 weeks. I didn't know any better at the time. Everything was fine thank God. I didn't find YT until she was a little over a year. I guess I would ask your vet. I would think being on a deck would be fine, but I'm no expert. :) |
It may seem okay to take your dog out in your yard and 9 times out of 10 it probably is but a few yrs ago we had a girl on here pup get parvo and it had been out in her yard only. Thats why I only advise doing it if your yard is fenced |
