New PeePee Pads
 
On Monday I recieved a box of peepee pads in the mail.

My eight month old Sophie freaked out and would not go near the pads. She would shake and run away. I washed them and she was acting crazy while they were in the washer and dryer. Five pads were reclaimed pads and three were new. What can be wrong here. Today she stopped going on the old pads. Help.

Hmm- thats wierd!

I wonder if she can smell something on the pads since they were reused? Even the new ones would have come in contact with the reclaimed ones and may have transferred the scent.

Were the old ones originally new?

I wonder if you re-wash all of the pads and hang them outside to dry, if the warm air and sun would leave a different scent on them. Also could you try putting a disposble pee pad on top of the washable ones?

Reclaimed? What does that mean? Are you saying there were purchased from a hospital after being used and abused?

I washed them three times with detergent and odo ban. That usually takes away any odors. Right now they are hanging on the line in my basement. I don't have any place to hang outside.

I got them from a company I found on yt. They were used and laundered of course. There was no damage to them they arived all clean and packed nice.

Could be that the person they were used on passed away. Generally no amout of laundering can take away a death scent. Animals have a much keener sense of smell than us humans. I'd just get rid of those pads and only buy new ones.

So, she quit using ones she had previously used? Were they washed with the newer ones? Maybe try mopping up a little pee with it. If she smells her own scent on them, it might help. Have you tried the disposables? You could try them while you're trying to figure out what's up.

Yes, haven't you ever heard of the use of cadaver dogs? Personally, I find it very gross (to say the least) to bring used hospital pads into my home for use by myself or my pets.

Furthermore, IMO hospitals and nursing homes are full of sick people that is their buisines. Some things NEVER come out in the wash. I've seen things that would make you do this~:eek:

Were they used in a hospital? I thought they were just regular washable potty pads for dogs. Did I miss something?

I agree- its really best to only use the new ones- you can find some for pretty cheap and they last a really long time, so its really best to deal with something that is brand new.

"reclaimed" means that a company purchased the old ones from a nursing home or hospital situation, cleaned them and then resold them.
