Thoughts/Suggestions This year I'm participating in a 5k run to help raise money for breast cancer. A light bulb went off. What if I try to set up or organize a run for animals where all the proceeds go to (this is where i'd love suggestions). Do you think I would be able to do this? I would donate all money towards the foundation we choose. What do you all think, do you think i've over reaching??? |
I think pet owners would love it. My Husband participates in the runs and I know he would take Chachi if there were something he could participate in |
It makes sense to have a run for them. I mean Bailey is going to be training with me...LOL |
Sounds interesting...I wonder how people get to doing fundraisers. I think you have to be associated with or have permission from the person/organization that you are raising funds for. But I'm not even sure about that much, I run in them, not organize them :) Good luck getting this together, they really are a lot of "fun" to do |
Good idea! We have quite a bit of animal foundations that do walks/runs around here in the spring/summer. We did a walk for my little brother's foundation, Connor Cares Foundation, and you had to plan at least 2-3 months in advance. You have to get a license in your county for where you will be having the walk but it's not that complicated to do, it's just time consuming. There's a few different license things you have to get and then you're set! |
Thanks! I was going to ask the people who started the 5k that I am participating in. I know they had to get a permit from our village. I would love any Illinois YTers to show up too. I'm still trying to iron out all the details but I would love to do it!!! Quote:

Yay! I'm going to really look into doing this for 2012!!! |
Not sure where you are located in Illinois but Macy and I would be interested. |
That's awesome! I'm in the Northwest suburbs. Quote:

My daughter and I participate in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure. I never imagined I would be able to raise money, I'm just not the outgoing type. But this is my 5th year and each year people dig deep for what they care about. Alot of people care about animals. Go for it! |
I love the support i'm getting for this! |
My friends & I participate in a Relay for Life for breast cancer, where teams walk a local high school track for a 24 hour period. I didn't have my pup last year, but now that I do, I'd love to be able to participate in a fundraiser with her. My joints would prefer a walk to a run...and prolly so would her lil yorkie legs :D |
Great idea. I'm in northern suburbs too and would love to do it. |
YES!!!!! i'll look into it all and get a facebook page up and work everything out. I'm so happy I could cry. We can raise so much for the animals!!! Quote:

I think its a great idea! I participate in Relay for Life every year an last year our local chapter had a Bark for Life for the pups to relay and it went over really well. The funds went toward your donating goal but you had individuals sponsor your pup for each lap instead of you. Maybe benefit a local shelter or rescue with your money raised? That way hopefully individuals from those organizations can also encourage people to participate. |
I think it's a great idea. There actually was recently a walk in protest/support/love for the Whistler 100 Huskies. I don't think any funds were raised, but there was a HUGE turnout. I was sad that I didn't get a chance to make it to it. I know a new petition to the government has come out of it, trying to make tougher laws for animal cruelty. |
I was thinking about doing a local shelter but I'm afraid people will want "their" shelter supported... |
I think it is a great idea, in fact if you did it in the Spring time Sophie Kate and I would come up and participate. I have done a couple of 5k's and they are fun. We could get a team of Yorkie Talk runners/walkers. |
That's what I was thinking too. I am doing one in June and it will be HOT, so spring would be better!:D Quote:

Thank you so much I will keep everyone posted! |
Excellent idea we do a lot of animal oriented fund raiser and events in my area-love them! However if you have no experience in promoting an event, fund raising, don't let that discourage you...but get some people on board with it that have experience...set yourselves up for success (biggest thing to remember beg, plead, promote everyone into donations to minimize costs-free advertising, signs etc and everyone gets to say they donated it for their own promo). Know your demographics and promote from there: athletes and animal lovers...both donors, participants etc... Quote:

This is the kind of advice I need and I have no problem begging for animals! LOL |
Awh thank you, I really hope it helps, especially for such a noble cause anything animals is great! Hope you find some really knowledgeable people in your area to help spear head this event with you! Quote:

I'm going to call a local shelter next week to see if they know anything too. |
