Coat change from Pup to Adult? Hi, I was looking at the thread about coat change as Yorkies get older and everyone's yorkie color changed. My Diallo however has not. He remained black. In fact, it appears as if the amount of grey in his face decreases as he got older. He has a small amount of grey on his thigh area but its only noticeable when he is cut short. So, is this normal for a yorkie!? Here is Diallo at 10 months and at 5 years old. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/att...?ads=1&postid= http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/att...?ads=1&postid= Thank you. |
The ideal coat will change from a puppy's black and tan with a cottony texture, to a steel blue and gold with a silky texture as an adult. However, that doesn't always happen. Some will keep their puppy coat and remain black with a cottony texture. I have one right now that I'm certain will not transition the way it is supposed to. Some will also incorrectly transition to a wiry textured coat that does not grow very long, and the experts no doubt know of other variations that I haven't mentioned. BTW, I'm impressed that you keep your pup's coat long. That is especially difficult with a cotton coat, since it tends to mat more easily. I just keep my cotton coated girl in a short cut. My silky textured boy is much lower maintenance, even when the coat is long. |
