:animal36 I just purchase a Yorkie puppy 2 days ago. He is 13 weeks and is 20.8 oz. How big will he get as an adult. at 12 weeks he was 16 oz. Thanks so much!:aimeeyork:animal-pa

You double the 12 week weight and that will give you an estimate of adult weight

See if your baby is following the chart. I have two girls. Ally followed the chart and Tia did not. They are all different.

Congratulations! It's hard to say but I would guess he would be close to 4 lbs. Do you know what size his parents were? That can give you an idea but is not a guarantee.

No, I don't know how much the parents weight. The breeder said he would be 2-2.5 lb. He is very tiny. small nose, short legs, tiny body. What do you guys think?

Wow, going from 16 oz to 20.8 oz in ONE week is a fairly brisk growth rate for one week!

[(20.8 - 16) / 16 ] x 100 = 30% increase

.... a growth rate of 30% in only week's time.

If that continues, he isn't going to stay on the tiny side.

Did you see the parents at all at the breeder? I say check the chart.
The double 12 week weight rule is good too. Teegy was just shy of 2 1/2 pounds then and now he's close to 6

Hey guys, good news! The scale I was weighing him in wasn't weighing good. so I got a new one and I weight him today and he weighs 18.5 oz this Sunday he turned 15 weeks! ill see if i can post a pic later of him! The chart says he will be 2 to 2& a half lb.:animal36:animal-pa

Hi Patti -- I know it is all a guesstimate, as they can stall out early or have a late growth spurt and throw off all the charts. :) But out of curiosity, where did you come up with your estimate? I would guesstimate 2 to 2 1/2 pounds too depending on some other input (i.e. I usually like to know how many in litter and other sizes. A oner will usually get big fast and slow down as he gets older -- so initial guestimate will look like he is going to be bigger than actual. Large litters will usually have some late starts who will catch up quickly when they get out on their own). But I just was really curious how you came up with your guess. I like to store away any info.

That would be my guesstimate too. :) Is this your second yorkie? Are they getting along fine? I love watching them interact. I have two yorkies & a Jack Russell who I jokingly say, thinks she is a yorkie too. She really acts just like them, including jumping in my lap like she is a 3 pounder instead of an 11 pounder! :D

Look forward to seeing your new yorkie boy! What did you name him? Or are you still working on it? It took me a while to name Annie. I was going to name her Millie (as my son is going to his first year at Millsaps College) but I just could not get it to work. She was not a Millie. A name has to fit. Wishing you and your growing family the best!

Bella followed the growth chart pretty much to the T. She was always according to the growth chart to be about 3.5-4.5 pounds. She is right on track at 4 pounds and just turned a year a few days ago. She hasn't gained an ounce in about 4 months so I can safely say she is probably done growing.

Jett is 22 weeks old this week and has been sticking pretty close to the growth chart as well. At 12 weeks he weighed 1 pound 4 ozs. (maybe) (I didn't get him until 14 weeks and was 1 pound 8 ozs then.) This morning he was 2 pounds. So I am thinking he will probably get to be 3 pounds give or take. He is a VERY VERY tiny little guy, very small features, tiny legs and head. (Bella was quite a bit sturdier in appearance. But is still pretty tiny in the scheme of things.)

Bella was one of 7 in the litter. She was the smallest female in the litter, but there were two smaller males. Bellas Mom was 6 pounds and her dad was 4. Jett was one of 2 puppies in the litter, and he was the little one, by about 1/2 a pound at 12 weeks. Jetts mom was 5 pounds and his dad was 2.5.

Just an uneducated guess based on my experience with my yorkies. All of mine seem to have a late growth spurt.

Isn't dangerous to neutered a puppy so tiny? I want to neutered him but dont want him to be in risk:(

Hey! thanks for sharing ur story! Jack Russell are awesome dogs too! This is my 4 Yorkie:D. Well 2 are my sisters but we live together, so the dogs are always together! the oldest Yorkie (my sis dog) is 16 years old and weighs only 3 lb! My first Yorkie she is 4 years old and weighs 5 lb(the one in my display pic). My sisters second Yorkie is 2 years old and weighs 2.8 lb. & now the baby of the family is 15 weeks and weighs 18.5 oz!:D I think I found him a name but im still thinking on it :rolleyes:. At first I was going for Elijah Eli for short, but then my grandma said what about Rin-tin-tin! so for now his name is Rin-tin-tin :p

He can be neutered safely, but wait until his growth plates are closed. Also, make sure you find a vet that follows the recommended anesthesia protocol for Yorkies.

Isn't he precious! Check out that tongue. Both my girls have that. Abbey has always had a tongue too big for her mouth and Mattie is a senior with a few teeth missing to hold the tongue in!

What a adorable baby:) what is his name? I think he will probably stay very small as an adult. Gosh when I brought home my Suzi a 9 weeks, she went to the vet, and was already 3 pounds. LOL .

Haha, lol. Thanks! He also has had his tongue out, & i love it :p. He isn't that sweet lol, he bites for every thing, but if he is sleepy he will cuddle:rolleyes:. Of Course i dont let him bite me as much, But he starts to scream & bit if he sees his comb:( I think his first grooming experience wasn't a good one. But he will definitely get the best care in my hands. I graduated Pet grooming:animal-pa.

Thank you, i will. i like the name Eli too. But im just going to stick with Rin-tin-tin (4 now :)). Thanks, that Yorkie is my first, she is 4 years old. How old is ur furbaby?
