How old is Chopper? If he's 4 months old 4 hours is about the length of time he can hold it...if he's 5 months it's about 5 hours...etc...at least those are the guidelines I was given. Have you tried crate training? We never crate trained any of our other dogs but we did Jo & Riley and it's the best method we've ever found...I wish I would have used it a long time ago! We have a playpen but we no longer use it...they would poo in there and step in it and make a big mess but they won't go in their crates. Do you free feed Chopper? If so you might try feeding on a schedule so you can (hopefully) predict when he will have to go. If you crate train you have to take them out often and use praise and treats to let them know they've done a good thing. Jo & Riley both started sleeping through the night around 5 months...before that we got up 1 or 2 times before morning and we were up for good around 6. I was so thankful when they started sleeping all night! |
It can take a bit of time to train, human babies take like two years, right? ;) Juts give it time, and try to regularly take your Chopper out to get him used to the schedule. Good luck on the training, Yorkies are very smart. Treats and rewards (after peeing) can be a great resource in training. |
My Little girl was easy to train, My Little boy took longer. Good Luck. |
