Please Help! Im a new Yorkie Momma!!!
 

:confused:I have had a Beagle for 5 of his 7 years now. He is an awesome dog but gets very lonely. He is very gentle and sweet unless he is constantly pestered. Two days ago I went and got a 2 year old Yorkie from a soldier that was leaving and unable to care for his baby anymore. This was a Love at first Yorkie sight. I never knew how cute these little buggers are. Well, here is my issue, my beagle named Bosco, was very welcoming and intrigued by the little guy, until King, (my yorkie) decided to continuously hump bosco, over and over and over. They can't be together for more than three minutes without King trying to mount bosco. The issue is that bosco will put up with it for a long time and then all of a sudden he snaps and wiil pin King to the ground. King just shakes himself off and fearlessly comes back to hump him some more. Neither dog is neutered and one trainer suggested we neuter King to make him stop. They are both family members and so getting rid of one of them is NOT an option. Is there anyone that has any advice??? or knows if neutering the yorkie will change his personality?:confused: I just don't know what to do and I am getting lost on how to proceed. If anyone, ANYONE, has ANY advice, please let me know... I am desperate!

Welcome. I am not sure but I think neutering them both couldn't hurt. Hopefully some with more experience with males will see this and give some advice. That's great you took him for the soldier.

Welcome to you, Bosco and King. I love Beagles as well as Yorkies. Before I got Sammy (my yorkie love) I had a beagle (Benji). Anyhow, maybe you could get both dogs fixed. It would be better for them healthwise and maybe it would stop undesired behavior. Have lots of fun with your pups!!!!!

Neuter both of your pets. Neutering will reduce the urge. It will take a few months for the hormones to decrease, so you can use training to deter the humping.

Neutering cant hurt

When a male dog humps he is showing domanance over what he is humping. My 12 week old yorkie tries to hump my arm sometimes but I make him stop. Neutering should stop that.

I would not allow the humping; it is a sign of dominance and it is apparently ticking off your Beagle!

Ringo (my Westie) will not allow any dog to hump him; it's guaranteed to start a fight if they try.

Neutering will probably help (though female dogs do it too). For now, whenever your puppy starts that behavior - put him in a short 'time out' in another room for 2-3 minutes ~ away from the rest of the family. If you are consistent, he will get the picture pretty quickly.

King is displaying dominance. This will soon go away, but you still should have him neutered. Welcome to YT...:)

while neutering will help reduce, i heard that sometimes some dogs still retain their urge to "hump"

My friends yorkie was doing this a lot before he was neutered. Since he has been neutered she does not have near as much trouble with it. So, I would say neutering him would be best.

Neutering can help, but I have a 4 y.o. pomeranian male who was snipped when he was 10 months. He still humps Boobie, our German SHepherd mix female (spayed)...it's his allegiance to her that makes him do it on occasion. Not often, but he will hump her neck once in a while and we have to tell him "NO!". Just thought I would throw it out there...apparently these little humpers never quite lose all of their gusto. ;)
