Check your fences I wanted to remind everyone to check there fences sense the weather is getting nicer. We just had a scare here. With it being such a nice day and Callie loving to be outside she was sunning on the deck on a towel I laid out for her after I noticed she was enjoying the weather. Well we have a doggie door and a decent sized fenced in yard with a nice deck. Well if I don see her or hear her tags for a few minutes I will check on her (where i sit at the table with my computer looks out into the yard so I can see her most of the time) I hadnt seen her for maybe 4 or 5 minutes or heard her so I got up and she wasn't on the towel on the deck so I looked around the down stairs still no Callie, called up the stairs and listened for her tags still nothing, called her name out the back door still could not hear her or her tags, stepped onto the deck looking around franticly then I hear the jingle of the tags and they dont sound like they are in the fence so I look outside the fence and there she is checking out the big tree between us and our neighbors! I yell to my grandmother Callie is out of the fence while running to the gate in my slippers through mud open the gate and call her and she come running to me then goes running into the house to my grandmother who locks her in the house. I checked the other gate and it was shut which means she got out of the fence by a hole. Im sick and now shaken up so when my grandpa gets back from the store hes gonna do a fence check and figure out where she got out. It had to have been a pretty decent sized hole because she a teapot and there is no dirt or anything on her. So every one who has fences sense the weather is getting nice you might want to do a check of your fence. |
Oh my gosh, what a scare you must have had. I would have been frantic too. So, glad Callie was such a good girl and didn't run or anything. Glad is back in, safe and sound. Thanks for the reminder, going to check out my fence today. |
Wow you had a scare. Thanks for the advice for everyone to check their fences. I have a retaining wall that my fence goes into so Im glad for that |
Thanks for the reminder...it is an imortant one. Happy to hear that Callie is safe and sound. These yorkies do love to explore  |
This is a good post...I "walk" the fence line of my backyard, every Sunday...With it being so dry, the ground is contracting, and if I see an area that starts looking a little low, at the bottom of the fence, I fill it in w/dirt, and pack it tight...No one really talks about this issue, but w/our little itty bitty babies, it's a big thing! Thanks for posting, and glad your little one is safe and sound w/u at home! |
I am so glad everything is ok. Great reminder to us all. |
I'm so happy Callie is safe and sound. I hope you can find where she got out. |
 oh my gosh how scary  thankyou for the warning , glad everything is ok :) love jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
Scary! It could have been the gate door, too. Yesterday, I was playing basketball outside of my dads fenced in yard and Jackson nudged the gate open (I hadn't latched the lock all the way) and came walking right out of the fence... the little stinker! And it's a pretty heavy door too and a nice built fence but all he had to do was push through! He can't stand to be far away from me. So glad Callie is safe! |
We found where she got out. The front of our fence on both sides of the house are wood and that is also where the gates are, well when we have trees taken down, or when we got the roof redone they have to take a panel of the fence out to get there truck through and I guess it wasn't put back together well and had opened slightly and Callie walked right through. Then walked all the way around the front of the house to the other gate where I found her. I am sooooooo glad no one was walking there dogs at that time because Callie more then likely would have ran over in the street to say hi and one of the dogs that gets walked a few times a day his owner has told us is not a dog friendly dog and Callie has never meet an unfriendly dog before so she has no fear of any dogs. She seems worn out now and is enjoying a long nap. |
I'm glad you found her escape route.:) |
I have to fix fence also they just run over it right now because of the snow drifts. But after next week the snow should all be gone :) Thank goodness I live on an acreage and they do not go any where just to the other door. But they think they are darn cool. |
After all the stories I have been reading about the hawks carrying off fur babies, I will not let my babies out in the yard alone. I would be devestated if a hawk or an owl carried one of my furbabies off. |
Thanks for the tip I will be sure to check all fencing before mine are out in the nice weather:) |
