Tummy troubles...Help? (TMI) Yesterday we went out for 2 hours, and while we were gone Roxie pooed in the house. The poo was weird. It was solid, but surrounded by this brown liquidy stuff. She also left a puddle of this brown liquid (minus the poo) over on the stairs. It happened again overnight, while we were sleeping. She pooed behind the recliner - solid with the brown liquid - as well as a puddle of the brown liquid over in the front hallway. DBF took her out a few hours ago and he said she pooed liquid again. I am very worried. Usually her poos are completely solid (no liquid), and she never poos in the house. What do you suggest we do? She seems fine otherwise. She's playing and drinking water normally. We have been limiting her food intake since yesterday afternoon when the first incident happened. If it continues into tomorrow, should we call the vet's office? |
Kind of strange that it is mixed in with regular solid poo. I defer to the experts on here about timing of taking him to the vet, but I would venture to say yes you need to take him if it doesn't clear up soon. |

Roxie has not improved, in fact she seems to have gotten worse. She has had several more accidents in the house of that smelly liquid brown stuff, and yesterday she was vomiting. She had a rough night last night; she had accidents in my bedroom and in the kitchen. She began walking all hunched over. I wound up keeping her gated in the kitchen so that her accidents would be contained in one space. I am not giving her breakfast this morning, and we will be calling the vet's office as soon as they open. I didn't sleep much at all last night...I'm worried sick about my baby. :( |
BAG it...they will need a sample...let us know. UNTIL THEN DON"T GIVE HER PEpto or anything maybe feed her plain rice if you can. Be sure she is getting plenty of fluids immediately and give her nutrical if you have some handy, or some karo just to keep her blood sugar level up in the mean time. |
She could be pretty dehydrated by now. Skip the breakfast and get her in this morning. |
Took her to the vet this morning. Doc said it was bacterial overgrowth in her digestive system. She was given an injection of antibiotics and IV fluids because she was dehydrated. :( We are also to give her Flagyl for the next two days as well. Poor thing looks like she has been through the wringer. She's been lying in her bed most of the afternoon and really soaking up the attention from DBF and I. I hope she starts to feel better soon. |
So glad you caught it now and she's getting what she needs...sometimes they look worse for wear just because they went and were treated. |
this happend to my ella 3 times now in her 2 years of life the first time i took her the vet and they said she had collitis and did really do anything but put her on a chicken and rice diet and pumpkin and with in a couple of days she was back to normal so when it happen the two other times i didn't bother calling the vet and gave her the chicken and rice and pumpkin and it went away |
