Purina one beyond Just wondering what everyone thinks of the Purina One Beyond,it seems to be a better quality then the rest of he Purina line.It got some decent reviews,just wanted to know your thoughts,I have a picky eater,and I'm working my way down the line,until I find something he likes.So far I've tried Natural Balance,Acana,Merrick,and Innova. |
The ingredients look pretty good, arguably the best of any grocery store brand. The chicken formula has 33% protein and 14% fat. The first ingredients are chicken and chicken meal. There is a whole formula about removing water from these ingredients that would place them further down the list, but most kibbles are subject to that criticism. My only complaint would be the beet pulp and salt and the fact that they are fairly high in the list. I would say give it a try. The best food for your dog is the one that works best for him/her. :) |

Thank you all for your responses,so far,he seems to really like it.He has Innova in his bowl,I put some of the Purina Beyond on a plate next to his bowl to see if he would like it,and,he ate it all up and left the INNOVA!I hope I finally found something he likes!Too bad he didn't like the Merrick, Innova, Acana,or Natural Balance this much. |
As long as he likes it , and it does not have a lot of grain, or meat by products , then go with what he will eat , and enjoy. |
I'm not a fan of the company, so it wouldn't be my choice (unless talking about an rx diet). Do what works for your pup, but also you definitely should never have to rotate through all of those to find one that is accepted. How long are you waiting before trying something else? |
i recently just stwicthed to this brand and my ella loves it she first mixed it with her old food and she picked it out of her bowel and wouldnt touch her old food so i just gave it to her and she sits and wait at her dish all day for me to feed her lol |
I'm glad to see them start offering corn free blends and such at the grocery stores/Wal-Mart. I think it's a step in the right direction. I still wouldn't chose to feed it, but if it's all you can get your dog to eat, you have no choice. The ingredient list reads much better than typical Purina food but I'm sure they still use low quality ingredients. It comes down to are you happy with the ingredients and is your dog happy. When it comes to cost with dogs of this size it shouldn't be an option because a 5lb bag at $24 lasts two months, my wine for one bottle is around the same.... If you are pleased with the reaction and the stool is good and the dogs health is good then that should be enough. I do suggest staying away from corn wheat soy and anything with a lot of meal like ingredients. |

I would also feel a bit guilty if I thought Ellie hated her food, but really changing so much may not be a good idea. He is being exposed to a ton of protein sources this way which may prove to be a problem later. There is also the issue of you're the owner and what you put down for him to eat is what he needs to eat. Just think one day he may need an rx diet (so common). There will be little choice. He'll have to eat what you put in front of him. Might as well get used to the idea of eating what you put down for him now. I think trying a couple foods is usually fine. Constantly trying to find something that the pup loves isn't. |

It's something I still would never feed on a daily basis but at least they are stepping up their game a LITTLE bit. Jackson loves when he gets into my family members dogs Kibbles and Bits, Purina, etc. They put some kind of sugar, or something (I forget what exactly it is) on their food to make it enticing to the dog... I call it doggy crack, LOL. It's hard to get a dog onto better foods once they've eaten that stuff. I let Jackson have a little bit of it every now and then, like when we visit my grandma's house and her dog eats it... I look at it like a little treat. |
I know I shouldn't keep changing his food,but,he does'nt eat at all!So,I just want to find something he'll eat,so he don't starve to death.Maybe I should try the raw food diet,any suggestions as to what brand I could try? |
Maybe you can just keep trying other better quality food until you find one that works. When Rio was a puppy I wanted only the best for her. Started her off on Innova puppy, switched to Orijen, turned out both were way to high in protein and fat for her. Switched her to Canidae which was lower in fat and protein which she ate enthusiastically at first. She got bored with it, so I mixed in some Now! grain free which she loved. Then I added Bullet to the family and had to find something they both love. Right now they are on Buffalo Buffalo Basics turkey and potato and they love it. I still mix in a little Canidae and Now! for some variety... I've had to find the balance between high quality and what my furbabies will enjoy, along with what their sensitive tummies will tolerate. I've seemed to find the right concoction... for now. :) |
Most RAW food is literally food you buy at the grocery or and feed to our dog...raw. meat, vegis, fruits etc I feed fruits and vegis the same ones we eat.
