Puppy No Longer Sleeping Through Hello Everyone! I have a yorkie/bichon mix named Wally, he is just over 7 months old. We got him at 3 months old, and quickly had him potty trained around 4 months. So for the last 3 months he has been generally sleeping perfectly through the night. Only occasionally needing to go out once during the night, maybe twice a week. Lately, however, Wally will whine and bark at least two times every night to go outside. Most of the time he will potty, but some times it is just to go outside. We have been playing very hard with him during the daytime; he take him hiking, to the park and the beach, and to play with our friends dogs. He is a very busy puppy so I would think that he would be tired at night and sleep. I haven't tried pulling his water bowl a little while before bed (I'm not sure that is a good idea). Has anyone experienced this? I'm hoping it just a teenager-puppy stage. Thanks!!!! I apologize for the length! Happy Saturday!:) |
DK, One of the first things one would tell you, is that he may need more exercise before bedtime. But, you say you do that. I'm sorta against recommending removing his Water, but, on the "extra" trips outside, is he actually doing anything (pee/poop) ? If not, then he's just trying to do something out of boredom. A possibility is getting a Doggy Door, or, setting up an ok area inside, where he can potty, or maybe more toys to keep him busy until he gets sleepy again. |
Since our 2 dogs sleep in our bedroom at night, they do not have access to water. One is 3 yrs old and one is 10 months old, never had a problem with it. I would remove his water. IMO |
With my 3 at night, invariably one would have to go out. Sometimes they were getting me up twice a night. I put a pee pad down in my room and tell them to go on the pee pads. Somehow, they understood and now they do that if they really have to go. I just couldn't take getting up every night and especially those nights when they get you up an hour before you have to get up and then you can't go back to sleep! This has worked fine for us. |
