My puppy is a jumper!! My puppy is 4 months old and weighs just over 2 lbs. She climbs up on the couch and ottoman by herself, then jumps off. Lately she climbs up onto the back of the couch and I'm concerned she will try to jump off from there!! I tell her no, but she keeps doing it. She has a bit of a wild streak and she just loves doing this but I'm concerned that she may damage her joints due to her small size. Does anyone else have this issue, and if so, how do you deal with it? I guess I should add that she has an older, bigger sister (a cockapoo) that does this, so she thinks she should do it too. |
My Jackson is a jumper and he also climbs on the tops of the couches and jumps off, however he is a sturdy 16lb'er and I even worry about him! I would definitely try to limit it from happening when you can. It's so easy to break little legs. Maybe everytime she climbs up there, just say 'no' and then put her down on the regular part of the couch or the floor. After so many repetitions, she should learn! |
Youve got to stop her from jumping shes going to end up with a broken leg or LP which yorkies are prone to and both usually require expensive surgery to repair. You need to get steps for your couch and bed so they arent jumping from there either |
Our five month old, 3.2 lb, Sophie does this too. We've tried to stop her to no avail. The vet said the only way she would learn is if we never let her on the couch, even to snuggle on our laps. She won't know the difference between the back of the couch and the seat of the couch. So if you don't want her on there, don't let her on it at all. We've given up trying to stop her, hopefully she'll be okay :) However, I've noticed as she's getting older she likes to play on the floor more so maybe she'll grow out of it, I hope!! |
The smaller they are, the bigger daredevils they are!:) My previous yorkie was a jumper, too. She scared me to death all of her life. I used to bend down a bit and hold my hands out. She'd jump right into them. I think some of them come with springs in their legs!:p |
