Thats an amazing video. I never saw anything like that before. |
1 Attachment(s) I don't want to sound all abrasive or anything but first: I highly doubt a tom cat, no matter the size, would just sit there and be murdered. I've seen a feral kitten in action fighting against being captured by a rescue worker (who gave up after several scratches and bites) I have a cat, and I adore him! I would be beyond grief if he got out and wound up dead in the next door neighbors yard. Attachment 339891 now he is a little chubby (he's been on a diet since I adopted him) and he's down to 13.5 lbs. Rizzo, my yorkie (5lbs) likes to "attack" Fatso on occasion. So I can picture your yorkie "prowling" and closing in on his "prey". For the most part Fatso takes whatever Rizzo throws at him, only because he's just playing, but when he's tired of it he jumps where Rizzo can't follow, or bites/smacks him (no damage yet). So I just want to mention that overweight cats are not only fast, but pretty agile too. I have seen him squeeze through small spaces, and hop clean over a 4ft fence. I try not to take anything personal here, but the comments "fair game" and well this whole comment: Originally Posted by T-Rox http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/ima...s/viewpost.gif :yelrotflm I don't know if its inappropriate to notice since it's such an awful situation with a cat being dead and all but isn't it funny how most of all of us are like "is the pup ok?" or "Your yard, fair game", and my favorite so far " maybe a bird of prey could have killed it with it's talons" haha! I'm guessing none of us are cat people :P. Anyway I'm glad your baby is ok, cats can be super mean. That is my greatest fear with my Roxy is that another animal is going to harm her because she doesn't really attack but she gets REALLY excited and curious with other creatures (of all sizes) and NEEDS to run up and say hi. Did you tell the neighbors?? was pretty offensive. It's not a funny situation when an someones pet dies, regardless of species. Sometimes Fatso runs out the door in the morning and climbs beyond reach and if I'm running late for work I sometimes have to leave him. He is a big boy and doesn't leave the yard (I doubt he could clear the 8 foot fence) He sure gives me a mouthful when I return though, just sits right next to my drivers side door until I open it, and that's when the meowing starts. I would certainly hope that if Fatso was possibly killed by a neighbors dog, they wouldn't be off telling their friends well he was "fair game":( and laughing about the possibility that maybe a bird of prey got to him first, and left him in such a state that he couldn't defend himself from a 10lb dog. I'm happy the OPs yorkie wasn't harmed, but I feel for the family of the now dead cat. They really should have kept him indoors, but sometimes cats can be just a quick as yorkies when they escape. But I'm sure the family is thinking about this now, all the "what ifs..." etc. |

One time she got in a cat fight with the neighbors cat... I was upset but could not place blame because cats are roamers (according to our local authorities) So I am sure the same is true in your case. But saying that... if your pup really killed the cat you would have heard the fight. I don't think one pounce would kill the cat, yes maybe he did pounce and bite the cat but I think the cat was already dead or dieing. |

I think t-rox meant "funny" and is odd not as in ha ha.... right??? Of course it is sad that someone lost their pet. I sure hope the op dealt with giving the owner of the cat the body with proper respect that should be given any living creature. Our cat (same one I mentioned above) was killed by a fox and the neighbor who found the body dumped it in a garbage bag on our door step as my dh was taking the girls to school. I will NEVER forget how horrible that day was!!! What is sad..... is the word MONEY had to come into play... the cat owner wanted to be paid for the lost of the cat. I think that is why the op became defensive. |
Im sorry to hear the poor cat died, but it is not your yorkies fault.. he is a dog and is only doing what is natural to him. If he was in his own fenced back yard then it really isnt your fault, just a sad situation. Apologise to the owners and let them know how sorry you are that this happend, make sure they know that it happend in your back yard and no where else. Maybe next time they wont let their cat out to wonder, although I know it is hard to keep cats indoors, nobody is at fault here it is just a very unfortunate and sad event. |
When it comes to cats and dogs, I have seen it all! I have seen dogs go after some cats, while they will leave others alone, and I have no doubt that a Yorkie can kill a good sized domestic cat. That cat may have been old,or ill, or it may have been de-clawed. The thing is, when dogs go after a cat they know before they attack if they intend to do harm, it is a very different behavior than pounce and play. I have seen dogs live peacefully with family cats in and out doors, then attack and kill a stray or feral cat. If that cat was used to dogs, and not afraid of them, then it is possible he wasn't intimidated by the Yorkie until it was too late. If the Yorkie did kill the cat, then there was something about it that posed a threat to the dog or his territory. Sorry that happened, and I would think that most stray or unfamiliar cats would be in danger around that Yorkie. |
I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. I was just making an observation that all the comments seem to be in the dogs defense which I get because of course we don't want our furbabies to be vicious or to harm other animals. Those aren't my feelings I was just quoting previous statements and yes Lil Sis I was saying funny odd not funny haha. It's so hard to be sarcastic in text. I think it's horrible when animals die but when an animal kills another animal like it happened in this situation (whether it was the dogs doing or not) it's not really anyone's fault, its nature. =/ Again, sorry If I offended anyone. |

It is like I said B4, terriers will be terriers. If some critter gets into a terrier's own back yard, they are genetically programmed to attack, though I don't know if that applies to most Yorkies - mine back off at the last minute but they still go. Still, it could happen I guess and that is only one of the reasons I have to watch Tibbe when he is out in the back yard - he would go after a tiger and I could not stand it if another animal hurt him, let alone did it while on my own, fenced property. Silly as it sounds with a 5.3 lb. Yorkie, I have placed "Beware of Dog" signs in my back and front yards just to let all know I have a dog on this property. |
I've never heard of anything like that happening. I guess it is just instinct. I for one, won't leave my pup outdoors alone. Your pup could be the next prey. I don't know if you have hawks where you live. We have them here and I'm always watching out for them even when I have my dog on a leash. Please be very careful. |

When we were at Petco the other day, I asked my wife if we should buy a few Mice for Basil to chase. She did not answer, and walked faster. Guess that meant no. |

Steve that\'s not funny and I\'m sure Marge didn\'t think so either. I hope you were just joking. As a person who has 5 dogs and 15 cats I am a total animal lover and I would never want an animal trained to kill another animal. |
