So frustrating! Just when I think my Yorkie is housetrained....he goes potty in the house! I just don't understand how a dog can not go in the house for a month or more and then all of a sudden he does it. Yesterday morning he pooped in the house, and this morning he peed. We have a doggie door so there is no excuse why he can't go out. If 99% of the time he goes outside, what makes him go inside that 1%? |
It's called the y factor or yorkie factor :) they all have it, and I doubt there are many if any yorkies out there that are 100% house trained. Luckily it's just a small mess and if you have the enzyme cleaner on hand it's a quick and easy cleanup. Don't get frustrated, your pup will probably always have an occasional accident. Just think of them as a forever 3 year old, you know they know where they need to go to, but sometimes they just "forget" or don't make it in time. |
Thank you for your encouraging words! Just last week we started leaving him out of his pen when we left the house. We have a Basset Hound and they love each other and I couldn't wait until they could keep each other company when we aren't home. I really thought he was trained. Maybe he is but will have these temporary lapses in good judgement from time to time! He only has accidents upstairs. Maybe he is too lazy sometimes to run downstairs to go out! I have only had Basset Hounds in the past and once they were housetrained, that was it. No accidents. Ever. Guess these little guys are a lot different! You are right, at least they don't make a big mess to clean up like bigger dogs! I just hate that he may pee somewhere and I wouldn't find it. |
I'm beginning to think it's just their way of reminding us that we are really not in charge. |

How old is he? I think all dogs will have accidents every once in a while. You can guarantee if it is raining outside my two will potty inside, no matter what. |
Same here but they are getting better about actually using the potty pad instead of just NEAR it...and they are both about 3 years old. :rolleyes: Quote:

Boopster...I think you are right! Ladymom...when we have left the dogs out when we were gone it was only in the kitchen/family room area (it's tiled). When we are home we let the Yorkie have free roam of the house and have never had any issues. When he pooped yesterday and peed today it was when I was getting ready for work. Just thought it was weird. LaurenPatrice...he is only a little over 6 months old, which I know is young to expect a dog to be completely trained. He just did so well for so long that I was hoping it was true! Since he has a doggie door and goes outside 99% of the time I figured he knew what to do. I'm sure he does and I'm guessing his accidents had nothing to do with not knowing where to go! |

Also remember if they have peed or pooped in an area the smell is still there to draw them back to that area. I always spray with an enzyme cleaner and then I use my rug cleaner. I got one when I realized that although he was good most of the time....well the Yorkie factor. |
We use Natures Miracle which I think works very well. I just wish I could catch the little sucker in the act! At least I could let him know it's wrong! I guess I should be happy...his accidents are few and far between. |
