car sickness Hi all, I have a question about using Bonine. I read here a few weeks ago that it can be used for car sickness in puppies. The instructions were 1/4 tablet one hour before the trip. I just want to clarify that this dosage would be good for Rocco. He is 7.3 lbs and 81/2 months old. I also travel with a 13 year old 20lb. Jack Russel who is super anxious in the car. He dosent get sick but shakes and pants the entire time. Would Bonine also be something I could give him, and if so what type of dosage? Now with the spring coming (thank goodness) I will be traveling to my little mountain house in PA. with Rocco, Dottie (sibling of Rocco), and Mudpie (Dottie's housemate)! The ride is usally about 2 hours and we do it almost every weekend. I am hoping the little ones will outgrow the car sickness. |
Im not sure about the medicine, but do you have them in a car seat? Pnut had really bad anxiety in the car, Then I got him a car seat, he helps so much!! I think bc he feels safe and he is able to look out of the window! Just a thought |
Yes I have the two little ones in a pet gear booster seat. They are up high and can look out the window but they are still vomiting. Dottie usually gets sick two to three times during a 2 hour trip. Rocco did get a little better, he is now down to once maybe twice but he drools like crazy..... |
Poor babies, Maybe it is too high for them? Have you tried to put them in a crate and maybe cover half of it? Or do you think that would be worse? |
My 5lb Yorkie still gets car sick and our Vet told us to give him a 1/2 tablespoon of Children's Liquid Benadryl. That seems to help us on long trips. I also don't feed him, so his stomach is empty. I give him Nutrical and water along the way, per Dr's instructions. I have tried to feed him, while on our trips but he doesn't have an interest in food as long as we are on the road. I met a nurse and she gives her fur babies, a lollipop dipped in Benadryl before she takes them out and that does the trick for her. Even if it's just up to the store for a quick trip. :) Good luck with your baby. |
The booster seat is where it should be. The crate was not good for them thats why I got the booster seat. The vet did suggest Benadryl for the older dog but it didn't really work for him. I never thought about Benadryl for the little ones. The lollipop dipped in it sounds like an idea... thanks:) |
