Kirby Was Naughty 1 Attachment(s) Hello all!! Well Kirby always wants to eat my bird. I got a quaker parrot and he is so neat!! Kirby loves to bark at him... Tonight i had Cosmo out and he must have got spooked and flew down on the ground!!!! Kirby got him in his mouth!! I about freaked. I started yelling to get away and then he dropped him. He seems to be ok but it scared me so bad!! He has never done that before he usually will stay right on me and it has never been a problem before. Does anyone on here have a bird???? If so does your puppies want to eat them too??? If so what do you do to try to stop this bad behavior?? I know they are hunters but there has to be some way to teach him to leave Cosmo alone. I use the spray bottle and that seems to help but tonight I didnt have time to grab it. |
Poor, Cosmo... |
Oh cosmo must be scared. Maybe give kirby a new toy to keep himself busy. |
I used to have a parakeet named April May. One night she was chirping a lot (very out of character). Her cage was outside my parents' bedroom. My dad took the cage, covered it with a sheet and moved it into the basement onto a coffee table for the night so we could get some sleep. My dog at the time, Midnite, apparently snuck downstairs and knocked the cage open and ate April. You got pretty lucky with Cosmo & Kirby!!! Good thing you saw what happened. |

Ahh your poor bird... yes I was lucky. He seems great this morning!! I keep his cage up high... That was so scarry!! |
Oh what a cute bird! Yes we have birds! We have African Greys, who now bark like Princess(drives me nuts!). a small Parrot who talks up a storm and some parakeet's.Princess likes the birds. We would have Princess sit on our laps and bring the birds out for her to meet. The birds are tame, so they sit on our arms and just talk up a storm. I would have someone hold Kirby, and someone hold Cosmo and let them meet a few times like this. This way when Cosmo flys down again (and they all do) Kirby will know not to hurt him. :) |
I have a love bird named Amelia. Thor would tear her up if he had the chance. He is so intreged by her, and anytime that I am holding him and he gets near her cage they both bite at each other...It's a mess. I just hope she never gets out of her cage. |

That must have been very scary for you!. I've never had experience with a yorkie before but I have had my silkies kill a bird. My daughter's cat used to catch birds and mice for her, she would bring them inside and turn them loose, I think she was trying to teach my daughter how to hunt. One night she turned a little bird loose in the house (in the middle of the night) and before we realized what was going on her two pups (about 6 mos. old) had caught the bird and killed it. I would be very cautious in introducing them to each other and definitely wouldn't trust them alone together. I think the hunting instinct can be very strong in even young puppies. I hope things go well for you. Kathy, Gypsy and Tango |
:embarasse Oops! I just realized that made it sound like my daughter's cat's two puppies killed the bird. lol. I meant that my silkies two puppies killed the bird that my daughter's cat brought in. Sorry for the confusion. Kathy |
