Weight gain after spay Has anyone else had your yorkie gain weight after being spayed? Mine went from 4.7 lbs to 6 lbs within a few weeks of being spayed. Seems like she's hungry all the time. I have her on Natural Balance reduced calorie formula to see if that helps her lose a little weight. |

This did not happen to us although our vet warned there could be some weight gain. How is her post surgery activity level? |
|
Her post surgery exercise is the same as after the surgery. Nothing has changed. I must admit, though, she's not very active other than I throw her toys for her and she runs and brings them back. We do this every day. I'm afraid to walk her because of the loose dogs in our neighborhood. |

Sorry to hear that because one of the things I was going to suggest was to increase the time and pace of her walks. Can you reduce her food intake a little and perhaps add a filler such as green peas or something else that is healthy and has a low caloric count. |

I am so glad to read this.... I have been going nuts. Remy gained a pound... she went from 3.5 to 4.5 in a few weeks after her spay. The first half a pound I was so happy... she was too skinny.. then came the 2nd 1/2 pound and I am afraid to weigh her now:eek: She is 14 months and I thought she was done growing. She is active and happy... we just call her miss piggy. I thought it was my fault.. am I feeding her too much, how much weight gain is unhealthy? Her big brother (a shih tuz) was put on a diet by the vet.. so maybe it is me:confused: |

I will try adding some green peas to her diet. I also went to Petco today and bought a bag of Natural Balance reduced calorie formula. I'm going to try it out and see if it helps. Thank you for the help. |
