Validating the microchip Have any of you ever asked for your furbaby to be scanned for their microchip after they are implanted? I just realized both Rio and Bullet have microchips but how do I know it's working correctly and showing my contact information as the registered owner? I think I will ask my vet to scan them at their next check up just for my own peace of mind. |
Not a bad idea, I've got Joey's information listed with both the microchip maker and the AKC, but I've never checked to see if the chip actually registers the number. I think we'll do this on our next check-up. Thanks for the suggestion! |
Very good idea! I'll be asking my vet to do that on each of my pups next exams. Thank you. :) |

I also periodically check the information online. |

Our vet tested Remy's before our international trip this past summer. Was part of the requirement for the health cert. His worked fine. |
Our vet office checks the microchip every time we go in (no matter what for). It looks like it's just part of their process, same as heart rate/pulse/temp etcetera. I'm glad they check it...now that I think about it. |

My vet also checks everytime I take Sophie Kate in for her shots (yearly). Another thing they do is remind me yearly to update her profile with the service and make sure there is a current picture of her. This is a really good suggestion since I have had to update the picture and change her color description each year. |

I want a service for my dog like I have for my IPhone where you can use software called "Find My IPhone" and it will track it via GPS. I know there are GPS collars for dogs but they are huge, how hard could it be to invent a small collar that dials in every 15 minutes and give a location? |
