Help!
 

I found a tick on my baby! How do I get it out??? I put vaseline on it and it still wont back out, and Im afraid to pull it out!!!

Anyone?

Heat up the end of a needle and touch it to the tick...it should back out. Once out get it off of your little one and burn it with a lighter. Watch out because it will pop!

Or...grab the end of it and twist out...making sure you get the head out. Do the same with the lighter.

Let me know how it goes....I HATE ticks!

Ok this tick must have been on her awhile... In this link if you look at the 2nd picture its exactly what it looks like... Im going to wait for my hubby to get home and let him do it :( Her skin is really red around the bite mark :(

Oh no, poor Lulu. All I know about ticks, is that you have to get the head out. Good luck. Hope it goes well!!

If it's a fat one(engorged) then get the needle out girl and heat it or twist it out...don't be scared(I am giggling because I hate touching them too... but I do) get the head out. You cannot throw it back on the ground because it can and will feed again. Once they go down to it's "normal" size it will continue to latch and feed. BURN THAT SUCKER!!!

My hubby pulled it out and the mouth stayed in! OMG Im in tears!

No matter how carefully you remove a tick it may be possible to leave part of all of the head behind- especially when removing it from a squirming dog!

You can take the dog immediately to a veterinarian to have the tick head removed-- which is what some money-minded veterinarians might recommend-- but letting time take its course may be the more prudent option for a healthy dog.

If you haven’t already, you should clean the skin around the bite with rubbing alcohol to reduce the risk of infection and continue to keep it clean. As it heals your dog’s body should form a hard layer of skin around the bite. The hard lump is the body's way of quarantining the foreign object (the tick's head). As layers of skin die and regenerate, the lump will eventually just fall off. This will occur after several weeks or months. If you want to speed the healing process you can apply a bit of Vitamin E to the site once a day.
If at any time the bite become inflamed or appears to be infected you should consult your vet immediately.

I hope you feel better.:) I come from a place where we deal with this all the time. Yep, my little momma has had a couple on her from the time I got her...she is still here. Get some flea and tick meds that are going to work for your area. Treat you lawn, if you can, then you can possibly reduce the meds you have to put on your little one. It's going to be alright!!!

Thank you. I cleaned it with alchol and put some neosporin on it. Ill take her to the vet tomorrow :( Its a BIG red spot on her

I took Maggie May into the vet when this happen to me. They took it out without charging me and told me to put cortisone cream on it. Good luck...I hate them things too! YUK! Hope your baby feels better.

I was told the best way to take a tick out is with tweezers. You need to pull it straight out, no twisting or anything like that. You need to drop them into rubbing alcohol to kill them. Flushing them down the toliet does not kill them!

There is a little tick removal tool that you can purchase at your feed store for just a couple of dollars. That time of year is coming so it doesn't hurt to have one on hand!
