New Yorkie Owner and now have 5 puppies Hi, I am a proud new owner of my very first Yorkie. Molly showed up at our house about 4 weeks ago, very underweight and full of porcupine quills, she was in awful condition. The vet believes she may have been a puppy mill breeder and she is about 4-5 years old. Took her to the vet and found out she was pregnant. So now I have Molly and 5 health puppies that were born last Thursday. My question is - Molly will not leave her puppies to eat so I am hand feeding her 3 - 4 times a day. I leave fresh water and dry food out for her all of the time and then mix wet and dry 3-4 times a day. This is my very first experience with puppies and I was wondering if it is normal for the mom to not leave them even to eat?? Any advice on this or Yorkies in general would be greatly appreciated. Also what to expect as the babies get older. I am in a new situation and would appreciate any advice!! thanks..shelley |
Ohhhh, you are to be commended for taking in this poor little girl. She deserves a good home and lots of love. Don't have any good advice for you but I'm sure there are others on here that can tell you what she needs as a new mama. She may need to eat special food to make sure the babies are getting all they need. What a good mommy she is not to want to leave them. That is so sweet. Hope someone can help you with what all to give her and I would be just like what you are doing. Hand feeding her. lol!!!! Spoiling her and all the babies. BTW is that Tyler Texas you are from? |
Post your message in the breeder section. Lots of experienced breeders there that will be more than happy to give you good advice. Breeder Talk - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community Kudos to you for taking Molly in:) |
Yes I am in Tyler, Texas!! I truly feel that I am the lucky one that Molly chose to come to! She is absolutely the sweetest little girl and I am very lucky to have her in my life. |
Thanks for the advice - I have posted in the breeders section so hopefully will get some good advice on what is the best thing to do for my babies!! |
