Just putting this out there, our last vet spayed a Russian Dwarf Hamster in school...had the hamster as a pet for 3 years after-a typical life span for them now...but like I've noted I still haven't gotten Elvis fixed because I'm just terrified of the risks and his odds right now. It is such a task and a half to deal with when Princess is in heat...depending on decisions in the next two years...oh I honestly am so excited to get her altered too. |

Many years ago we nearly lost our golden due to not spaying her and she developed pyometra. They brought out her uterus to show us how it was twice as big as normal because of it. That kind of thing sticks with you. It was all our fault for not having her spayed. I'll never let any other dog of mine go through that. |

All those that believe in absolute spay & neuter should read the paper I linked -- their are a lot of other considerations. It is not all about size & pups. I know I can safely spay my girl but I will also be increasing the risks of so many other things and besides stopping fertility, the other benefits are pretty small. |

Sure wish we had a little longer than 5 min. to edit a post! My previous post has "their" when it should be "there" -- I hate it when I do that! Inattention to detail and some extra pain meds for post-surgery pain will be my excuse this time! |
