Ok slight panic attack! I just got home from the store and went in to let Daisy out. Got her harness and leash on, carried her down the back steps, put her down..well she took of running which startled me and her leash slipped right out of my hand! She takes off sprinting across the yard, im running after the leash, tripped TWICE! getting covered in mud and grass stains....but thank god when i stopped and gently called her, she came right to me!!!! I was thrilled to death!!! Didn't think she'd come as she hasn't really been doing that yet!!! I was thankful, but I did lightly scold her!! im still shaking!! |
Well thats a real good thing she came back to you at least. If Chachi gets out I have to chase him down. He knows the command come but ignores it in those situations. |
I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh when I read your post. I wasn't laughing at you, though. There are probably few of us on here that haven't been on these wild goose chases! I know I've been on plenty of them over the years! :D Your pride will heal, but at least you got her back in one piece and everything turned out all right. The reason I was laughing was because I still have plenty of memories of furbaby chases myself and I can still replay them in my mind. :D |

At least you probably didn't laugh as hard as my husband did when I showed him the grass stains on my stomach!!!!!! She knew momma wasn't happy too! Now she's hangin on the couch with the boys (jumped up there herself!!) |
One thing about yorkies is they love to run like the wind and obviously Daisy is still young enough to run. Take her for a few trots. They love it! :D Tell your hubby you're not the only one this has ever happened to. ;) |
Boy! Do I know the feeling! All except falling in the mud! Ha! Isn't it awful how the heart drops right out of y ou when that happens? Snoodles also knows the "come" command, and she usually follows it. I really practiced it the last time we wwent to the lake. I would let her go, and then yell "Come" and she would come back like a bullet! I was very pleased at that. They say, the one command one should teach and inforce is the "Stay" command. That way, if they get like across the street and a car is coming, you can tell them to stay and they will. I can't seem to get Snoodles to understand that command outside. She learned it in bed at night when I get up to go to the bathroom. She kept jumping off the bed (which is very high) I put my hand up and said stay, and now she does. But, outside is a different enviornment! Maybe someday! I hope! Pat |
LOL Time to get the Tide out!!!! Glad your both OK :D |
This is a funny one . |
Just a word of caution -- when your new little lady came back to you she was doing what you asked so she should not have been scolded. In your mind you were scolding her for taking off but in her mind she was being scolded for returning. Glad your enjoying your new little girl she seems to be fitting into your family. |
When my Eskie was little she LOVED to take off and make us chase her!! I swear she would be looking over her shoulder laughing the whole time!! Luckily I have a Sheltie, so we would say 'get your sister', and he would chase her down and sit on her until we could get to her!!! He loved that part of the game! I don't know what others have found, but they seem to grow out of it and prefer to stick with the pack... |
She is a rescued dog , it would be better if you don't scold her . What would have happened if she had bite you for this one ? She have had enough stress don't place more on her . |
I bet you got so scared when she got loose and started running away from you. Im glad that she came back when you call her. Im happy that she is fitting in with your family.Good luck. |
They are sooooo fast. I've had more that one panic attack!!!!!! Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose |
I know how scred you must have been. It is terrifying when they get loose. I am sorry, but I had to laugh at the grass stains onyour stomach... :D I hope you were okay! Hannah |
Just today I had to coax Kujo from under my car today at the park. He was having fun running from side to side. |
I bet that did scare you. Mickey always runs from me then when I say stay he stays good thing. |
that was kind of funny. as i read that post i was picturing this happening to me. and yes i have dropped the leash before and went in to a panic. but the mud and grass stains were not in my picture. LOL . i was running and dragging the other dog behind me. LOL. i am glad every thing came out ok.(including grass stains). |
Oh...you poor thing :( ...I hope you are ok....and I stay nervous around Dollar..you just never know what may happen!! |
Here's something I've been doing to encourage Susan to come, but it only works if you have fallen leaves nearby, so it isn't going to work much longer. Anyway, I reach down and grab and handful of leaves and scrub them on the ground in front of me as I call her playfully. She stops whatever she's doing and DASHES to me. Then (as always when I call her) I scoop her up and have party time with her. She's getting better and better at coming (even without leaves). I try to make it a really, really happy thing for her to come. I read that in a dog book and it seems to work. What's really HARD is when you're scared and trying to get the dog to come and make it look like it's all fun and games. However, if Susan hears real panic in my voice she runs to me to get picked up. She's a coward. |
That happend to me with Rosi before too, scared me to death !!!!! |
