ignorant apartment people I moved to a luxury 3 bedroom apartment (so the sign says) my problem every day me or my son picks up on average 5 piles of turd a day not counting ours. This is one of my biggest pet peves there is 50.00 fine for not picking it up but you have to catch them I know theres always a pig or two but this is ridiculous if I catch someone I might just slap the person. I have to remind myself love thy neighbor but my fantasy is one good slap in the head. Im mean really its just gross. |
this is a problem where I live too. we live in fairly nice apartments and there is still those few people who leave their crap laying around, and let their dogs pee rite outside the door of the building so you get a whiff rite when you walk out. its grose |
It bothers me to no end to see people leave their dogs messes! Really how hard is it to bend over, and pick up that pile?? Some people are just careless and don't give a ratts butt about anyone other than themselves. Its ridiculous!!! |
The apartment below my boyfriend's has this kid that literally opens the screen door, lets his dog crap at the entrance and goes back in.. |
Yikes, the apartment I lived in while I was in the states had a fine as well, and people were pretty good about cleaning up after their pets. Except the people with the little dogs...That one always got me, here I am bending over to pick up a lab mix pile (and it was a pile that weighed about as much as Rizzo) 2x a day, and I see a woman walking her chi leave behind everything. My lab got the runs one day, and boy was that fun to pick up after. There was one family that would keep their little min-pin on their patio all day long (and this was in Tucson), when I noticed they didn't have any water out there I went strait to the managers office. They fined the person for leaving the pet out on the balcony, but I don't know if they got reported for the animal cruelty. I thought they were crazy for leaving their little pup on the first floor balcony. If I had a mind to I could have stolen their dog and they wouldn't have even noticed...until of course they bothered to give the poor thing water. |
I usually see 6 or more piles when I walk the gang and there is the "poop" ordinance. We always scoop da poop:D. Classic is the lady who was walking their big dog while riding a bike. They left the plastic bag on someone yard. Needless to say the neighbor was very mad. |
I'm the "rude" lady who walks up and hands someone a potty bag if they don't have one...then point out to them the city even provides them at the entrance to all public parks and trails-they are even biodegradable! It's not only just nasty but risks the health of other people and animals! We have a hefty city fine for not picking it up...I voted for it and the city provided biodegradable bags in accordance with other city regulations... Pollution Prevention | City of Arcata Dealing with neighbors in a shared yard where you would have to be on watch to see who it was would drive me crazy! Been there before but myself and another were the only ones with dogs and the yard maintenance guy actually noted I always carried bags...I guess I was lucky they received an eviction notice, penalty fines and on their second chance figured out they needed to pick up pooh...prior to that though I have to say I went down the Dollar tree and bought them a couple boxes of potty pick up bags...I'm "rude" like that hoping they'd get the hint that way...putting the bag boxes on their porch... Bulk Disposable Doggy Clean-Up Bags, 40-ct. Boxes at DollarTree.com I use these though...but it was the point they even have them for a dollar a box....I left the receipt in the bag. http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=9153 |

Concretegurl--you remind me of my Dad. When we moved to VA, my Dad is the type of person who kept his yard immaculate. One of the neighbors dog kept coming in our yard and pooping. One day, he picked it up, put it in a bag, rang their doorbell and when they answered it handed them the bag. Needless to say, they never would come to a BBQ at our house...LOL Gypsyqueen--I am sorry you are going through this but I did giggle out loud when I read your statement highlighted in red above. Report the problem to the main office.(if they are not already made aware by the groundskeeper). |

:D Your Dad is my new hero though! |
Yep! I have the same problem too, I live in a really nice apartment complex on 2 lakes and its the perfect area for dog walking....except there is more dog poop than goose poop! Our community even provides bags at specific trashcans so people will pick up the poop! Sigh.... |
No matter where I have lived, I have always had the same problem. In the city, I had to dodge piles right in the middle of the sidewalk. Here, there is always some on the grass. Thankfully, no one here seems to leave it on the sidewalks, so I just don't walk my kiddos on the grass here. I keep them on the road or sidewalks and they get to play in grass at my parents house or at the park. I will never understand WHY people get dogs if they are too lazy to take care of the necessary things required to own a dog. No dog is all cute and cuddles all the time, sometimes it is necessary to deal with poop, pee, and puke. If you can't handle the three P's, dogs are NOT for you. |

I have neighbors who carry their doggy treats in poop bags to give the appearance that they pick up after their dogs. My neighborhood is relatively small and an enclosed loop, and yet people have no shame about not taking care of their dogs' business. There are dog piles about every 2 feet on our walks. :( |
It just occured to me that some apartment complexes will fine you for not picking up poop. If the main office or manager is not doing anything about the problem, then turn the tables. Tell them you are going to call the city and report the unsanitary conditions on their property. See if they don't step up to the plate then. I mean you are paying rent and I am sure that groundskeep is apart of what you are paying rent for. I don't know just a thought! I really don't know if the City will step in but it couldn't hurt to try :p |
It's because of these slobs that most apartment building do not allow dogs. If more people were decent there would be alot more places that people with dogs would be able to move into. |

I feel the same about people having kids though too...the 3 P's part especially! :p Sometimes kids just magically appear though...and they're so much harder to re-home  Maximo, I'd be freaking out posting up on the front lawn...seriously that sounds so gross. It's harder if you have no land lord but thankfully there are often city ordinances... |

I used to live on the 21st floor of a high rise, and for exercise I'd run the stairs, I'd find poo bags in the stairwell. Also in the park you'd find poo bags filled. I really don't get if you're going to take the time to clean it, why the heck aren't they throwing it in the garbage. ???? |
Most apt. complexes do have nice grass, and I'm sure it attracts dogs that don't even live there with owners who don't pick it up. I have a nice green lawn, (front and back) and I use to find this huge red pile of poo every morning and I finally put up a sign that said PLEASE keep your dogs poo off my lawn. Who ever it was must have started taking another route or picked it up. A really disgusting area to find lots of poo is at a soccor, football or softball field. When we travel, it's very difficult to find grass that isn't littered with poo. I just don't understand people who don't care about others!! |
I don't think they are ignorant. I think they are lazy! People may not know all the reasons that it is important to pick up after their dogs, but they know they should be picking it up. A lot of places have baggies hanging up with trash cans, so what is the excuse then? My girls go on pads, but obviously when we go for walks we have to wade through all the (literal) crap out there. There is nothing hard about hooking a baggie holder with bags to a leash and using it. I don't know what is worse the geese or the lazy owners who don't pick up after their dogs! |
Urban Dictionary: posting up #3 (no jokes about #5) as in I'd be out on the front lawn in the a chair under the sun-brella yelling and handing out pooh bags...LOL...could post a fence...hmmmm but posting signs in the yard might help too...big one... About 5 yrs ago we were in out 5th wheel a dude would let his big dog out and the dog would drop a cron on my neighbors yard who was very old finally the dog did it in my yard I took that pile of turd and I did take it to his door and told him this belongs to you that ended that. Here I think they all do it at night I cant catch them or hell have no fury when I do catch them and this place provides bags and will fine them if they get caught but no luck yet. I worry about worms if there dogs have worms and they leave the turd my girls can catch it. If you see the news about a lady who slapped her neaghbor over poop that would be me (lol). |

I also have a family friend that let's her dog out to do his business in her backyard. What's the problem? She never picks up any, and I mean any of his poops. He's a freakin golden retriever! She has 2 little girls that go out and play in the yard. I didn't even let Kaji touch the floor out there. It was disgusting!!! |
I use Iverheart Plus heart worm meds on two of my dogs...they prevent 4 types of worms-there's a few others out there that do the same- might want to consider that also...but still people can contract stuff from the pooh lawn-I'm also the mom who freaks out if my kids touch the bottoms of their shoes and makes sure they have instant hand sanitizer in the backpacks... My dogs have a designate potty spot in the yard-wish they'd always use it...thankfully my kids really love using the Poop Patrol grabber-it's just gross to leave it out how do people use their own yards if they don't clean it up...we do it once a week here but always before every BBQ, potluck or play date, or guest that will most likely see the yard too-I do a little run through to get anything picked up out the doggy potty zone just for the sake of it-I get embarrassed if the pest control guy comes to spray around the house and I haven't made it out there to do a lil pick up! He always laughs if he pulls up and I'm out there doing a emergency pick up, says I have no idea how much of a hazard it is with his job...why he wears rubber boots-poor guy! Quote:

AGAIN!!!..............what are you doing? Three threads and the same weird post. |
My apt has a doggie park area that provides poo bag stations and for the most part since that area is near the trash compactor people will scoop their poop. There is also a wooded area near my building and Troy will go in the bushes to do his doo. There's no kids or human traffic there. I'll be honest here, I don't pick up in the bushes because no one is walking there and the majority of the time I can't even see it. But I do take poo bags and pick up if he goes in the street or wear people walk. |
