Is this a hormonal thing? Scarlett is almost 10 months and spayed. She's normally stand-offish, only wanting to be held when the mood strikes her. But the past few days she's turned in to a velcro dog. If I stop moving for even a second, she's in my lap or right at my feet. Right now, she's wedged in between the desk and my lap while I type. I'm not complaining, I love it. But I'm wondering if this is typical of a hormonal swing she would have had if she hadn't been spayed and will soon be going back to her more independent ways. All of my other females have been spayed and stayed true to their over all personalities (of course, they were all velcro doggies, too.) |
bumping this for you. I am not sure because Elsa follows me everywhere in the house(even to the bathroom) As we all know, it's when we are outside that she will leave me. "Houston We Have a Problem" |
My stand-offish, skittish pup I brought home was about 10 months old before I got my first kisses. She was so scared of everything & everybody, that I am still convinced her tail was docked late or some-such trauma that she related with humans. Now she's a love-bug, but it took awhile. |
Aww the poor little thing, I wish I had advice for you but my pup has always been a velcro dog haha. If I go into the bedroom to change clothes he cries, if I go to the shower he sits by the door, when I'm cooking dinner and not paying attention to him he just barks at me and throws toys at my feet  Gotta love them! :p |

One of mine seems to be very sensitive to certain changes. She was extremely clingy and antsy about a week ago and I believe she was picking up on some earthquake activity. Other wise she has a cat like attitude sometimes she wants you, other times she wants to be left alone. |
When I first got Fiona, she was a very independant puppy, which I thought was odd at first, but as she grew up, she grew out of behaviors, she is sucha a little love bug now, and i love it! She may just be getting some new found confidance, and wants to share and show it off!!!!! |
As I remember, when they start to become an adult, they like to be in your lap more than before. I've never seen them revert, either.:D |
Maybe it was traumatic for her and is why she is stuck to you now. She may get over it, so in the meantime, enjoy that little warm body & soul. ;) |
My Daizy has always been a bit independent...she'd prefer to sleep in hidden spaces...or little corners...but every once in awhile she becomes clingy! So I just enjoy the times she's velcro'd to me...and miss it when she's not! |
