Battle of being Stubborn So It wasnt long ago that I was saying how Lulu is house trained, how she only had one accident in the house and how she didnt potty much.... WELL... Her true colors shown through yesterday! She peed in this house more times than I can count, and would go to the door and bark and scratch to go out, but just to play. She would wine and cry at the door to come in and pee as soon as her paws hit the tile. What the crap??? She is refusing to pee or poo outside so I am crating and taking her out every 15 mins. She just stands there (leashed) and will not go. SO I put her back in her crate and try again 15 mins later. I am a tad frustrated at what changed all of a sudden... I am pretty darn stubborn my self so if she is trying to battle it out I will win lol. Im just thankful I dont have carpet at this point! Im guessing the first week I had her was a mix of her being new and sick and now its her true personality shining through... Oh and she is being leashed outside because I am so over her going out to play and not potty, not to mention she makes me climb the hill to get her which is rocks and I fell coming down yesterday and now Im sore. |
Sorry you fell.:( All I can say is she's a yorkie.;) She'll learn in time. You may want to try giving her a tiny treat as a reward each time she goes and let her know how good of a girl she is. I think all of my neighbors knew everytime Kacee went when she was a puppy, because of our celebrations!:D |
I was going to suggest that too...giving a treat each time she goes... One thing you need to remember about yorkies...is they can backslide when it comes to potty training.......it took my girls clear until they were a YEAR before we hardly had any accidents.....notice I said hardly....it can still happen once in awhile...now it's been a very long time...and I blame their last couple of accidents on my not paying attention to them needing to go out... Make sure when you take her out...you say POTTY constantly....so she learns why she's outside...and say it especially when she's going potty..then make sure to praise her. So just be patient and remember they have very small bladders...and are among some of the hardest dogs to potty train. She'll get there...it just takes time and patience. Look at it this way at least you have hard floors.:D |
I, also, think it helps to give them a way to tell you they need to go out, whether it is to play or potty. I use doorbells and I couldn't live without them!:D |
You might want to walk her a bit more. Maybe she will get the idea of doing her business outside versus in. Buddy and I go on walks 3 times a day. He's not perfect in doors, but for the most part he does very good. |
Thanks for all the replys, I do give her a treat when she does go outside, but as of today she has not peed outside since 4:30 AM. So she is being crated and taken out every 15 minutes from the time she goes back in her crate. When we walk, I give her 15-20 minutes and she plain out refuses to go. I know she will not go in her crate, so she has to go eventually right LOL |
Awww I understand your frustration as I still battle with mine all the time, but just give it time and keep praising her good behavior. She'll come around!! :) |
Wow, today has been a super tiring day!!! Its only3, but we are making progress!!! House-0 outside-5 Woohoo!!! |
The house is winning today! I remember it is exhausting, but well worth it in the end.:) |
Just keep up the good work and she'll come around. Just remember to praise her when she has been good and pee outside. |

Yeah... My neighbors may think I am a lunatic LOL |
Mine thinkl I should be locked up by now I'm sure I've lived in the same place almost 14 years. Last week I started off trying to get my rescue used to outside walking her around in the pink dog stroller a lot of times throughout the day. I did this for 4 days and as she got more used to it when she'd jump in her stroller which was pinned next to the couch and give me the lets go look...off I'd go I did get her walking on a leash and it went from that to ...ohhhh she's such a big girl now....oh she'sssssssssss a big girl now similar to that pull up commercial I say whatever it takes with my binky it was beggin strips that was her reward for being good that she loved. this little girl goes on her potty pads and treats she didn't know what they were 3 weeks ago and those are things she stashes in her stroller under the blanket for later. she did like cheerios then yesterday she took it and spit it out ...ewww mom she's got me in training mode right down to the flavor of her dog food she feels like eating today. |
She deserves to be spoiled rotten! I'm so glad she's doing so well in training you.:D |
she has me whipped...lol My son moved her stroller from its precious place pinned with the coffee table next to the couch so he could play video games on the big tv. she got on the arm of the sofa when he left to get a drink and let out a bark or two....hey! I have to check my cookie stash move it back. I couldn't believe when I pointed to the kitchen and said take that issue up with your brother mark and she went in there to find him. This is my 5th yorkie I've had in my life and they are just so frigging smart..lol |
