Yorkie running wild!!! Help!!! Teppi is 41/2 mo. old. A big part of the time she's fine but it's getting to where there are alot more times that she's just WILD! She is up & on everything, running around everything, chewing on things that she has never touched before, into everything. We're together 24/7 & I love her dearly but it seems like over the past 2 wks she's just gone wild. That's the only word I can think of to describe her. Nothing has changed in her diet except I started giving her pineapple as recommended 5 days ago. She only gets 2 little chunks twice a day. Is she getting a pineapple high? lol I walk her, I play with her. Like I said, nothing has changed but HER ENERGY LEVEL. I know she's a puppy, teething & a terrier. It just seems like something has changed drastically. Does anybody have any advice or encouragement. I can't leave the room for 2 min. without coming back to find her into something. Somebody just tell me this will get better & when. lol  |
Sorry, I can't offer any advice, but I'm sure others can give some good imput. I wish Zhoie had some of that puppy perk. She is 2 yrs and has always been a quiet, laid back girl. I sometimes worry something is wrong because she has always so calm. |
Roxy was high energy when she was that age. Some of that is probably the 'zoomies'... when they go about 50 mph through the house sounding like a herd of elephants and can last a few minutes before her energy ran down. Most of the time it happened in the evenings. Best to just stay out of her way when she kicks into gear. We always enjoyed the zoomies. But puppyhood was sure a busy time. I was able to distract her from things she shouldn't have or do with ''ah ah" and squeaker toys. She kept me plenty busy, but she has wound down to a more normal pace. The result of all the correcting her behavior as needed is now a well behaved dog that I don't have to patrol as intensely, and can trust her to stay out of trouble if we have to leave her home alone. Hang in there, it should get better. Your efforts will pay off in the end. She's over 2 yo now and continues to make me laugh every day. Gotta luv it!!! |
Your yorkie is very young....and puppies can have a LOT of energy! Have you tried tiring her out...playing games with her...if she's bored she'll probably get into more things...chew on things she shouldn't etc... I know it's winter....but if you can try to release some of that energy she might rest a bit more....or not be so high energy all the time. Have you tried walking her? Throwing balls she can chase around? That's what I did for my girls when they were younger....even now if I sense them getting bored from being inside too much...we get out squeaky toys and balls...or get outside for a little bit when the weathers not too cold. When it warms up....I'd definitely take her for walks. As she gets older she'll most likely calm down.....most likely.:D |
We play fetch quite a bit when the energy level gets to "overwhelming". Sometimes for up to 40 minutes at at time. Leyla is now 8 months and still runs wild at times. She plays with her squeeky toys so much that my parrot now makes the same sound. Have patience and a good throwing arm. |
Your puppy is entering "toddler-hood" and it's totally normal. Expect some loss of brain function as well. ;) Just remember that a tired puppy is a good puppy, keep her active and entertained and she will be better. You might even consider entering her into a puppy class or an obedience class to keep her brain engaged and active. As several people have posted it only lasts for awhile and then the brain comes back and they settle down. Enjoy it while it lasts. Teresa |
My Princess (who has fully earned her nickname Monster) finally out grew her puppy stage of chewing everything for a couple months...then it started again...I noticed it was during the time I was having medical issues and not exercising her as much...we got back on track and then...it started again.. I have noticed this go around it seems she is like a child literally really wanting negative attention. I'm so serious! She literally gets stuff she knows not to and show me and it's almost a game but she only does it when she is being ignored or when I have left the house...so I make sure she gt attention, is corrected, things are kept up, she has plenty of toys to play with, get exercise, and is in her play pen when I leave, and am waiting for the next round LOL! She's just over 1 now! |
Try a fresh supply of new toys. Sometimes I go into my 4year old Granddaughters toy box and pick the safest thing out of there for mine to play with. Then of course when my Granddaughter sees this she always tells me how she's been looking for that! I just love her!! |
Let the puppy be a puppy . |
Agreed. Let the puppy be a puppy. They have boundless energies. Just keep in mind that you'd rather have a happy crazy puppy, than one who is lethargic and doesn't move around. Your Yorkie is happy and healthy! |
My Kody's energy level peaks at certain times of the day well. He just runs wild for no reason. Then he calms himself down. |
Normal puppy behavior! Remy is almost 7 months old and every evening he goes crazy. He runs around the house with his toy then runs into the living room drops his toy, barks, picks his toy up and zooms back around the house. After about five minutes he lays down and chews on his toy! |
I've found taking Quinn to doggie daycare twice a week really helps! She gets out so much energy the days that she is there and comes home wiped out. I even notice a huge difference on the days I have to leave her home while I'm at work--she's not nearly as "crazy" once I get home. Plus she gets to play and socialize with other dogs! |
