Yorkies come in all shapes, sizes, and colors I was walking Bentley the other day and I stopped to talk to my neighbor who also has a yorkie. She said something that annoyed me a little bit. She said, "He is so much prettier than Bella. I wanted her to stay black and tan but she turned this ugly grey color." Bentley is still changing so he is still black and tan (though I'm finally starting to see the silver just a little bit). It just annoyed me bc she seems to think that they are supposed to be black and tan and that hers is wrong. I think she's beautiful. I was taken aback that she was unaware that they all change color and that she no longer likes her yorkie bc she isn't what she expected. She is also a little bigger and she doesn't like that either. I guess it just upset me bc Id love Bentley no matter what he looked like or how big he was. It was a very strange and unexpected conversation. I just think people should love them how they are. Would you love your child any less if they weren't exactly what you expected them to be? I sure hope not. |
I am not sure how old her yorkie was but it seems to me that she did NO research on this breed. The internet is full of yorkie pictures of all shapes, sizes and colors(hence your title matter) I hope she treats her little one better than she talks about her...sad. :( |
We see it on here alot posters disapointed in their yorkie because of color, size or their hair isnt growing long enough so its common with some yorkie owners. I think some people get yorkies for the wrong reasons and they have a shallow mindset |
A groomer told me that yorkies do not get silver. She was grooming a yorkie that had a dark saddle. I told her my remy was very silver except for his face and front legs. She told me yorkies don't get fully silver. a groomer of all people you think they would know about dog breeds.. |
If the subject ever comes up again with your neighbor, tell her to look at a show Yorkie or read the description of the standard at the YTCA website. Yorkies are not black and tan. It's one thing to have preferences, desires and wishes, but for her to call her pet's coat ugly is silly. |
I don't understand it at all...before getting Teddy I thought I knew what I wanted my adult dog to look like (i.e. ears erect, 7lbs etc), but along came Teddy and he is none of those things! His ears have not come up yet (he is 5 months old) and he is EIGHT POUNDS!!:eek::eek: He also has a wavy coat! He looks nothing like what I thought I wanted, but I think he is so handsome and I wouldn't want him to look any other way! And of course I know I'm going to feel the same way as he gets larger, and his coat changes...I mean how can you not be attached to your little one? I just don't get it?! |
Aww, that's sad. Bella has melted my heart since the moment I layed eyes on her! NOTHING and I mean NOTHING will change that! I may have had questions about coloring, coat, etc. in the beginning, but only because I have never had a yorkie. From what I'm experiencing and learning with her is that at this stage of her life (4mos) she is changing drastically EVERY week! But that's momma's girl and I love her to bits! |
I've seen that a lot on here over the years. It always makes me sad when people are complaining about their yorkies not being perfect. I'll bet the owners aren't perfect, either. |

Well if she wants to re-home, you know where to tell her to list her pup! ;) I'd not send her to the YTCA site...might encourage her perception of what her pet Yorkie should be...(IMO). Send her to YT though! Sounds like she needs Yorkie information... Quote:

4 Attachment(s) Well i have had yorkies for over 25 years and in that time they have nearly all been different, first pic is ben who had a thick light silver and cream coat and was a very large yorkie. The line up in the next pic is scampi, zac, tye and sasha, scampi was light silver with a cream head and was silky, sasha stayed in her puppy colours of black and tan and had a silky/wool coat, tye and zac are scampi and sasha's pups, zac is silver and cream but with a wooly coat and tye's back was black with dark silver and a tan head but his coat was wire. In the next pic is my rescue brandi who is a very large yorkie with a black and silver back and a tan head and she has a wooly/silky coat. The next pic is of annie who had a light silver back and a cream head and had a wire/silk coat. So every yorkie is different which i think is a good thing. |
Sounds like she would have been better off with a picture on her refrigerator:rolleyes:. Hopefully she will learn to love her yorkie unconditionally. Quote:

Loved every animal I ever owned, I'm just surprised that people are not or dont seem to be interested in the breed they want. It's important to know about the breed's "quirks", how trainable they are, etc., and their inherited illnesses when they become seniors. This can even include mixed breeds, as long as you know part of their breed. Oh, well, go figure.... |
This is all so true. I think it's just like kids...once you "meet" them you fall in love and just KNOW they're perfect just the way the are. It's sad for the pups who don't get that. Just today I posted about my Zoe, as I've never seen a yorkie look like her. BUT, it was just curiosity, since I didn't meet parents, nor research yorkies before she "landed" with us. I think she's absolutely wonderful  (even if today on a walk with my son, two DIFFERENT people asked if she was a cat or a dog:eek:! By the way, loved the looks of every single one of the yorkie babies pictured above! |
Yea, I thought it was crazy. In the beginning I had in my mind a picture of what I thought was a "perfect" yorkie. Then I got Bentley and what I thought was "perfect" changed. Its not about how they look at all to me. They have the most amazing personalities. The way they look at you makes them stunning regardless of shape size and color. The fact that they are all different in some way is just icing on the cake to me. You never meet a yorkie that doesn't surprise you. Just like people, there is no standard to what beauty is. They are all beautiful in their own unique way. Had she of googled "yorkie" before purchasing one it would have been obvious. I love them all personally. :) |
