Don' hate me cuz I'm bootiful? 2 Attachment(s) This is Zoe at 5 months. We love and adore her, just the way she is, and think she's just about the cutest thing we've every seen! She is 2 1/2 lbs. She had a rough start, until about 6 weeks ago, inlcuding losing most of her hair due to ringworm. Her hair now is new growth (all of the wispy stuff has been replaced). She's very soft and smooth. I trimmed hair over her eyes and top of head, as it was like a cartoon :D, with just a few little "feathers" sticking up. My college-aged daughter "rescued" her, (then brought her home to us--gotta love her:rolleyes:), so we don't know about the parents, etc. I tend to suspect a puppy mill:mad:, since she came from Oklahoma and has had so many ailments. My questions, for those who are willing, are: 1. Has anyone every seen a yorkie look like this at 5 months? 2. Any thoughts on her hair, coloring, size? 3. I have seen a few "Red Leg" posts...is she a Red Leg? 4. Will she grow? A few "yorkie people" have said she really prob won't, and I just worry that she is soooo tiny:( Thank you for your help with these "new mommy" concerns. Ya'll are FANTASTIC:)! |
My Apple weighed 3 1/2 lbs. @ 5 months, and now weighs 5 1/2 lbs. and is almost 2 1/2...Apple had her growth spurt from about lbs. @ 11 months to 5 1/2, after a year old...Also, she's not overweight...I thought my Buzz was going to be a red leg, but then his hair grew out, but your little girl has much stronger red legs, than Buzz...Very pretty color...I'm anxious to see what others say about the red leg coloring...congrats on the new addition, and way-to-go daughter for rescuing her... |
Zoe is a cutie!!!! I think she will probably grow more. When we got Sammy he was about 14 weeks old and weighed 2.2 pounds and now he is 5 1/2 pounds!! Zoe's hair grew in really nice. She's a pretty girl!! |
Ahh, I think she is just precious. Not sure what you mean by ever seen a yorkie "like this" at 5 months, but she looks perfect to me. Once her hair grows out, which it will, she will look perfectly healthy. I'm sure she will continue to grow, but will probably be on the small side. She is only 5 months old - my Nicco didn't stop growing until about 2 years old. I can't answer the question about red legged yorkies, but somebody will. Good luck with her! She is a doll. |
I think she will continue to gain weight as she gets older. She's cute as can be and once she starts growning hair should be one happy pup! |
You and your daughter are just awesome for helping out this little girl....she is just beautiful!! My yorkie grew until she was about 6-8 months old and put on some weight during that time also. I am sure that someone here will know more about her growth than I do and will respond to you. I have never seen a "red leg" yorkie but again, I am sure you will get an answer....everyone here is very helpful and knowledgeable. Congratulations to you all. |
Since she is only 5 months old and especially because she seems to have had a bad start in life she will likely grow a little more- however, she has a very petite body structure so I doubt she is going to get up to 5 pounds even, but that is just a guess obviously. She does have very red legs, obviously yorkies color changes a lot when they are young but it is a very gorgeous color if it stays that way. It will be interesting to see when her hair grows in more. She is very cute- I am glad she found her way into your house- you seem to be doing a great job with her. |
Just wanted to say that Zoe sure is a beautiful little girl. Have a great day! |
Awww bless her heart, she is bootiful! :) |
She is beautiful! All 2-1/2 pounds of her!:p |
She has super hot red tights! Sorry I couldn't help it...she's too cute! So glad she found y'all and y'all found her! Best of luck with everything, hope the worst is over! |
That's wonderful you rescued her, she is cute and will grow into her frame. i agree that she probably won't be a "bigger" size yorkie. She looks like my piper at that age, she's over 2 now and is lucky if she reaches 5 pounds. Lots of luck, she's a cutie! |
awww she's just PRECIOUS!!!! I'm so glad she found her way into your home and YOUR HEART!!!! My Tulip was very small like that...was 2 1/2 lbs..for a LONG time...till she was a year...and finally put on another pound.. So I wouldn't doubt she puts on another pound...but she will be small no doubt about it...Thanks for sharing pics! |

It was mostly the very red color of her legs, her super-diminuitive little bones and her short-haired look that looked so unique to me. I enjoyed reading about tiny ones that DID grow. I'll keep stuffin' her with food and love and we'll see what happens. We love her no matter how she turns out...just so CURIOUS about what she'll be like when she's "all grown up"! Thanks again!:thumbs up |
My Nickie was 3pounds at about 9 or 10 months old she now weights 5 pounds |
Zoe is so cute. I agree with the others that she will probably gain a little more but looks like she will stay on the small side. I don't know anything about red leg yorkies but her deep coloring looks like it is also on her ears and starting around her nose. It will be fun to see what her coloring ends up at. I am so glad your daughter rescued her. Bless you both for giving Zoe a wonderful future. |
3 Attachment(s) She is a cutie-pie :D Most yorkies will come in to season from 5 to 10 months old and will be classed as an adult from 6 months to a year, all toy breeds mature quicker than large breeds as some of them are not classed as a adult until they are 18 months old. Of course it depends on what book you read as they all seem to say something different but generally dogs are classed as a adult when they come in to season if they are a female. Most yorkie pups coats change colour from black to light silver or dark blue silver when they are adults. Here is a pic of my tye and zac (dogs in the middle) who are about 6 months old in this photo and were about 4 pounds. Tye has gone to rainbow bridge now but zac is now 17 years old and his weight is around 8 pounds so he still put on double his weight. The first dog in the photo is tye and zac's dad who was about 9 pounds and the dog at the other end was there mum who was about 8 pounds so to be honest theres no real way of telling what size your little one will be. My sasha also stayed the puppy black on her back and tye's coat still changed colour from black to dark silver to a mix of them both until he died when he was nearly 17 years old so theres no real way to tell that either. The only thing i have noticed with the yorkies i have had over the 25 years is that there head and leg colour mainly stay the same after about 10 months old it may get a bit lighter or darker but none of them that have had tan legs then get cream legs and vice verser also all pups are born black and tan (apart from golden and such) but scampi and zac who later had light cream instead of tan were born with a couple of white hairs on there head. Last photo is of sasha aged about 3 months and then one aged 10 months. |
Aww, she's just BEAUTIFUL!! You and your daughter are such wonderful people for taking in this little love bug! She is blessed to have found you. :) I see you live in TX. I do too! I have to say I don't know anybody (lived here my whole life) who has a Yorkie. I wish there were Yorkie or even small dog parks close. My Bells would love it! :D |
oh she is very cute!! My Remy was 3 upto about a week ago and she took a big grown spurt. She is 13 months and is 4 lbs. She is smalled bones but long legged and long body and was so skinny!! Now she looks good. So... I will say your little one will grow.. I am happy she has you!! |
she is soooooooo cute! you will have a ton of fun with her! and like others have said, she likely will grow. Dexter was actually about that same size a 5 months and is now about 6 pounds! hes on the chunky side though (ssshhh, dont tell him! haha) and is supposed to be about 4.5:D |
Thanks all! So fun to see pics of YOUR beautiful babies, and to read such nice comments about Zoe. This yorkie stuff is FUN business! |
