Did I mess up? I've had my Yorkie for a week now and I adore her. However the more I read the more confused I get. A book I read said that if a Yorkie is not the standard colors then they are usually free or very inexpensive. I paid $450 for mine and her mom was almost completely light silver (did not see dad). Also this was with no papers. Also they say people who breed their dogs that are not the standard are doing a bad thing for the breed. So do I for sure need to spay her to be doing the right thing? Sorry, 1 more thing- the books say that if your pup is timid or jumpy she'll turn into a biter. Mine is a little timid, but I have 3 boys who are really good with her, just loud. Is this going to turn into a bad situation? I don't want to turn a dog into a biter. I loved the dog and jumped into this and now I'm questioning myself, because I thought if I waited she'd be gone. |
What book are you reading? If you are not planning to show your yorkie then you can ignore the stuff about "wrong coloring" because for companion yorkies there is no such thing and actually the tri-color yorkies called Biewers command a higher price tag than the traditional black and tan at this moment because there aren't as many of them. As for the timidness and biting....I would make sure you socialize her both with humans and other dogs as much as possible. Take her to the small dog park, enroll her in obedience classes at Petsmart, join a yorkie meetup group in your area, etc. How old is she and how big? How old are your sons? |
alot of yorkies are silver wich is really blue i guess i wouldnt worry about it give the pup alot of love and stability and it will be perfect. with no papers its probrably pet quality wich means he/she doesnt have to be perfect. sorry to say if you want perfect you have to break out the wallet and spend alot more then that. :) |

Why would you want to breed her ? As for giving a dog away for free because he or she is not of the good colors is completely stupid . The breeder pay for the cares to mother and pups why would this person let a dog for free ? |
Thank you guys. You bring up really good points. I think I'm just a worrier and maybe I'm looking for reassurance. One of the books I was reading was Yorkies for Dummies- figures, right? My Isabella is 10 wks old, 3lbs. and my boys are 9,5 and 1 yrs. Is socializing her with my 1 yr old lab enough? They love each other already, so cute. And even when my pup turns silver I still think she'll be perfect. And that would be totally stupid to give a dog away when you consider all that, but we did get our lab for free because he is like, I'm not sure 1/8 or 1/4 german shepherd. Oh, and I would only consider breeding her if in the future I decided I wanted another Yorkie, and I would do it so I could keep one of the pups. But only if I researched and was able to do it and it was a good idea. |
