worried for my baby girl Sphirex. i have two gogs, a yorki(sphirex) and a swiss mountain dog mix(papae) they get along fine when im watching but once i leave the room i hear running then somtimes a few barks. once i come back into the room i see sphirex cornerd into a wall and somtimes paepe claws sphirex(well she basicly smacks her with her paw which is very big and she has sharp nails) papae is not aggressive at all but when sphirex even touches somthing that is hers she gets so mad! i know for a fact that when sphirex runs into paepas pikachu plushie its not on accident. i dont want to have to separate them all the time but i dont want sphirex to get squished! sphirex doesnt follow me around(which im very upset about) and she likes to leave the room just to bother paepe. any ideas as to how i can fix this? or have my yorki adore me so much that she would follow me around? thanks :] |

Your big dog should be trained not to be possessive of toys or chews. Swissys have various degrees of herding instinct, some with very strong drive and others with moderate drive. Strong herding drive pairs closely with strong prey drive, leading to a desire to chase small animals. Swissys should be taught from an early age to not chase small animals such as cats, squirrels and small dogs. Strong herding drive can also lead to games of chase and tackle with small children if not directed and trained properly. GSMDCA.ORG How big is your yorkie and how old? I think I'd be afraid to ever leave a tiny yorkie alone with a dog that size that has already shown that he would willingly hurt the yorkie. |

sphi is a tea pot yorki, shes an 11 pounder. and my larger dog is very well trained to not chase other dogs.ect but diva is smaller than the other dogs in the dog park so she sort of looks like a rat to her.(sphi is very short but round...a paper towel roll is what she is! xD.) sphi is 1.5 years and pepae is 5. :] im trying to get pepae to not be so posseive of her things, but when she was young we played tug or war with her(she was my first dog so i didnt know) and it has been a problom ever since(not letting go of small things, hiding things, putting sharp things in her mouth for attention.ec) |

We have two yorkies, Darwin & Mabel, and Zain is our 3/4 Great Pyrenees/Lab mix. Zain is quite gentle but we still don't leave them alone unless we are coming pack within a minute. Just the size difference could be disastrous if he puts his paw on them - these are just the facts about having a large dog (130 pounds) and a 3lb and a 7 1/2lb. I love Zain but have to be protective of my little ones. As for getting your yorkie to follow you - put some treats in your pockets and occasionally give one to your yorkie; just enough to keep her guessing if you'll actually give her one. Good luck! |
