How do I convince her?
 
I know this is usually the other way around...I want to get a female Yorkie and my wife doesn't. I've been as sweet about it as I possibly can but she remains steadfast in her refusal. Any suggestions?

Well yes, it is a little different, lol. Does she not want a yorkie, another dog at all or just not a female?

Toby can at times be a "handful" and I think she might feel overwhelmed. I've tried to convince her that having a female Yorkie might divert and calm some of Toby's shennanigans.

Zhoie is my 1st Yorkie and I'm fortunate as she is a very laid back little girl. She's quiet and was so easy to train. I must say, reading about some of them, they can be a real handful. I often think about getting Zhoie a companion, but I'm afraid I will jink the laid back life we have now, lol.

How old is Toby? Maybe it's his age and he hasn't calmed down yet. Is he neutered?

Oh yeah, I can see why you would want that...and it could be true. Girls usually tend to love the guys.

You can bring her around....good luck.

We'll be waiting on pictures when she gives in, LOL;)

Tell her your little boy needs a friend, that is how it worked at our house. I got the female first and then the boy.Even though Tessie was a gift for me she ended up loving my husband more so that is one reason I got a boy. Maybe she is worried that he will be jealous. I had this same concern, but now I have 4 yorkies. If it helps any my breeder where I got 3 of my Yorkies lives in Douglasville Georgia. Good Luck

Tell her that the 2 dogs will play together and entertain each other. Also I just noticed your signature. Your Buddy Boo was 23? That is incredible. Tell her you know how to take care of dogs!

Ye Buddy was 23. He was a Chihuahua/J Russel mix.

Talking about getting a friend for our little buddy, I'm thinking if I should get a girl for my Tezel. He is coming to 5 months and he is afraid to be left alone. The moment I step out from the room, he will be crying out for me and he will abandon all his toys and getting a bit nervous as though I won't be back anymore.

As I'm not an experience parents to yorkie, I'm still considering if I should get another puppy. I don't want to end up not knowing how to handle 2 puppies and create more problems to Tezel.

Just 1 questions, what is the best age to get yorkie a friend? If I get another yorkie later on when he is older, will that be a problem for him to adapt?

It really is hard to say what is a good age. All of them have such different personalities that it will be different for each of them. Personally, I have NEVER ever had a problem introducing a new yorkie into the mix. I have my theory that yorkies are very racist.. in that I mean that if we bring another yorkie around, they ALL get along.. but throw a poodle or a whatever OTHER type of dog in there and all of the yorkies will show how tough they are. I have added a girl to my family after having a 6 month old boy and they got along great.. added two puppies (a girl and a boy) and they all get along. Even took in a yorkie rescue for a short time and they all still got along. good luck

what are her objections?? is it that she thinks she will be the caregiver?? the extra work?? as far as who the yorkie will "favor" it is usually the girls love the dads and the boys love the moms. although that isn't always tru. I have 2 boys.. one favors Mike.. one favors (is OBSESSED with) me. of the girls.. one favors Mike.. the other favors me.. UNLESS they are scared of something.. then they ALL favor me!

Tell her that it will be good for your current Yorkie to have company while you both are away. Maybe if you know of someone who has a Yorkie you could "dogsit" for a while and then you both could see how the interaction will go.

Well, I can tell you how it happened for us. My wife loved Yorkies and I had no interest in them at all. I had Toy, a Wolf/German Shepherd mix, and didn't want another dog. So what does she do? She gets 'me' a Yorkie for my birthday!! I'm like, "what is this?", but it took just a few minutes for him to become my Dog-son.

So, what's the worst she could do if you brought 'her' home a little girl? Wait, don't answer that. :D Bet it would only take a few minutes for her objections to fly out the window. Well, at least that's the way it worked out with me :).

Seriously, best of luck 'convincing' (wink wink) her and I look forward to pics of your new little angel.

Maybe you could arrange a playdate with someone who has a friendly female yorkie. It would be a good chance for you to see how much your boy enjoys playing with others. And if he has a good time, how could anyone resist getting him a full-time friend?

If your little boy is still a pup, maybe she's concerned with having to potty train again. Maybe consider an adult/older dog, possibly a rescue? Potty training is already done for the most part, rescues are already spayed and health checked, and an older dog might be more of a calming influence on your wild man where another pup, even a female, might be just as hyper.

Yea...show her the video of 2 little yorkie playing with each other...
you can sit down and laugh for hours... they are just sooo adorable...
I almost pull the trigger to get a girl for my Tezel when I see 3 pups playing with each other...the experience is different...:p

Of coz in the end, I chicken out coz I want to make sure that I am ready to handle another yorkie at this moment... :D

Huh I have one neutered male, one un-neutered male and an unspayed female andd a spayed female...I prefer boys over girls as in my experience a neutered male makes the best pet...females fixed or not exhibit more territorial and dominance-my un-neutered male only has an issue when a female is in heat...but that's my personal experience in my own dogs, my friends dogs, and from a couple breeders, behaviorist and my groomer...I'm sure you can find a list as long of people whom swear by the opposite.
I also have noticed in my experience despite what ppl say men do better with female dogs and women do better with male dogs...again its all totally subjective, and my son and our neutered male are the best of friends.
My females rule the roost here dominating the boys...of course the boys readily submit.
