Molly is being spayed on Thursday Hi my Molly is getting spayed on Thursday and having her baby teeth pulled out at the same time , but I don't know what to expect afterwards, I know her mouth and her tummy will be sore , but will she be able to eat ? or go out for a walk? etc any advice will be really appreciated Thank you i'm really worried about it |
It is important that she be allowed to completely rest for 10 days. If she shows any signs of vomiting, tremors, pale gum or bleeding, this indicates a complications and the dog should be brought to the veterinarian immediately. This is, however, rare. A female dog may try to lick her stitches and this can cause infection; therefore steps may be taken to prevent her from doing so. In about 2 weeks, she will have a checkup to make sure all is well and stitches will be removed at that time. I offered food to daizy..she wasn't interested the first couple days. She just wanted water. |
She can eat. It wouldn't hurt to go with soft food for a few days while her mouth is healing. Because anesthesia can make them nauseous, only a partial meal should be offered the night she comes home. Potty trips only. No extra walks, no stairs, and jumping, no playing with other pups, and no running for about 10 days. |
all good advice from the pros!!! I would add be careful how you pick her up, dh felt so bad when he pick Remy up and she yelped -- he touched her tender area. She slept the first night, of course on one of our laps:p She will be fine!!:) |
Everyone has given you excellent advise. I'll be thinking of you and Molly on Thursday and saying a get well prayer for her. |
Sending only good thoughts and well wishes for little Molly. Praying for a quick recovery. She will be back to herself in no time. Hugs & kisses to Molly. |
You've gotten some good advice. I would add that you should have a quiet place for her to go to. She may just want to feel safe and secure in her crate or in a small area. Maggie May was in little bit of pain the night of her spay so we were able to give a bit of pain meds and she quieted right down and went to sleep. She was still a little out of sorts the next day but did not need meds. We kept her quiet and away from Hot Rod so he would bug her. By day 3 she was ready to go...it was then a matter of keeping her quiet for the next few days. You may want to groom her prior to her spay as you should not bathe her for at least 10 days or she heals up whichever comes first. Best of luck with Molly's spay. Let us know how she does. |
Thank you all for your advice and good wishes I really appreciate it x x x |
Just an update on Molly, she was spayed yesterday and had her baby teeth removed, she was really groggy when i collected her yesterday , she slept a littlee nighth through t in between crying, she wont drink only through a syringe and she has only had a very little to eat. I have been taking her outside for toilet but up to now she has only wee'd once, is this normal or should i be worried? I wish i'd never had her done now. She's had antibiotics and a painkiller at lunchtime |
Awww hope Molly feels better! Oliver is in surgery right now having 16 teeth pulled and his neuter done! I know how you feel about worrying for them!! |
I am suprised they gave you antibiotics and pain killers, my little furgie was spayed wednesday night (of course she went into heat 2 days before!)... she was very groggy that night, my vet said she is going to be thirsty but don't let her down the water, just some sips here and there, she didn't really eat that night, only peed once, the next day (yesterday) she was still groggy, I could tell she is sore, she hasn't really been licking her incision at at, I did put some "yuck" spray on her incision (which I got on my hand and even after a million washes still tasted nasty...couldn't eat picky food with my right hand all night!). She ate breakfast and dinner fine, peed a couple times, pooped once, and a little better this morning...she never had to wear the coller or drink from a syringe? I have just been by her side the whole time... good luck with your little love!:aimeeyork |
It's normal. She will start to pee more soon and she'll want to eat and drink. Remember that she had her reproductive system pulled out yesterday. It's a major abdominal surgery that is comparable to a hysterectomy. It takes time. :) You did a good thing for her. Pain meds should always be given post spay. Antibiotics are optional. Some vets think they are needed and some don't. My girl was really down for a few days after her spay and she ended up coming out of it just fine. :) |
Good news Molly had a pee half an hour ago!!!!! , she's had a little to eat and some more water from the syringe ............Thank you all for the advice and good wishes I really appreciate it x x Kelly I hope Oliver is ok x |
