Yorkiesatwork | 06-23-2012 06:55 PM | My Max was 4.6 # at 15 months... He was much smaller than I anticipated... his little legs were long, but bird-like. I was so afraid he might fall off the bed at the hotel on the way home, I lined the floor all around the bed with pillows. At 2 1/2, he's very muscular, strong as an ox; eats like a horse; and can almost 'levitate' from the floor to the recliner if there's a bowl of popcorn involved.
I think we have the 'breed standard' to blame. A size 12 for women today is not the same as a size 12 was in the 1950's... Have you ever toured a castle and looked at the low chairs and the tiny armor displayed. People are bigger and Yorkies are bigger. But they won't let the standard weight rise. Nutrition is better; health care is better; and these babies are TERRIORS, not bird legged, back-combed, prissy boys... I shudder sometimes when I see the extreme hairdo's of the show dogs. I'd love to see a short sheared, flowing skirt, long nosed, blue collar ratter shown sometime... I have two of them, and I think they represent their breed well. |
