X pen advice! Hi all, This weekend I bought an x pen for my babies. Bella is perfectly happy in the pen, but Jett, hates it. He cries, screams, and whines almost the whole time he is in it. I have his food, water, potty pad, bed, toys......etc in there, but he will have nothing to do with it. (I only want it when we leave the house and can't take the dogs with us or when we are eating, etc.) Is there any way to get him to be more relaxed in it?? I even got in it too and sat with him to get him to relax, which did work, but the second I left, we got the screeching again!! I tend to leave him in the pen until he calms down and quiets. (This can take awhile) But I feel so guilty, and he looks soooooo sad. LOL I found I cannot leave him in the house alone for even a few minutes, he has found interest in the stairs, but is waaay too small to navigate the stairs, he will get up a few of them and stop and cry because he is stuck. |
I put him in it this morning, while I was putzing around cleaning up the kitchen. He was hollaring and whining.......when I peeked around the corner, he was curled up in his bed, looking comfy as heck, but was still crying and carrying on.......LOL |
My little Princess, I keep her in her X-Pen, for when it is bedtime, when ever we are not home, or busy with things around the house. She prefers to be out with us, when ever we are home. So, I only keep her in the X-Pen for all that I mentioned. I keep Princess's pee pad w/holder, crate with her bed, blanket and a few toys inside it, food and water dish, toys, etc. all in her X-Pen. This has worked well for Princess, since we brought her home. We used this same set up for our Pom when he was younger and smaller. But once he figured out how to climb out of the X-Pen, this no longer was ideal for him. We did not want Ty to hurt himself while climbing out of the X-Pen. Your little one will hopefully get used to being in the X-Pen, soon. |
They can get spoiled very easy but that is what i do best |
How old is Jett? Puppies learn pretty quick that if they cry and holler they will get attention. You are wise to keep him in a safe area when you are not able to watch him. It will just take time for him to adjust. Would it be possible to put a gate across the steps? I worry so much about pups because when they are little they get so brave. I have steps for my yorkies so they can easily get on the couch and bed but when I have young pups running around I have to move the steps otherwise they learn to get on the furniture before they are really ready. Pups can get hurt so easily falling off furniture. Hopefully Jett won't be a climber. Some pups learn at a young age how to climb out of x-pens and that can be dangerous too. It sure is a lot of work just trying to keep our babies safe. |
Jett is coming up on 15 weeks on Thursday. Yes, he has already learned that if he hollars we usually come running. LOL Smart little guys!!! We are trying to break that habit though!!! He has already fallen off the couch once, scared the life out of me. My 3 year old grandson loves to watch tv with Jett and walked away from the couch and Jett decided to follow, and not gracefully!!!! Thankfully he was ok, just another heart attack for me..... |
