Have question about dog stds and breeding. I have a new dam that I well be breeding for the first time with an unproven / first timer stud. Is it necessary to have them tested for std's and Brucellosis before breeding even though neither have had any sexual encounter prier.? :aimeeyork |
I would have to say yes because if they have ever been around other dogs they could have gotten Brucellosis. |
Yes, no matter what always, always test for brucellosis. My husband breeds beagles and we had a horrible case of it. The dog didn't catch it from breeding because we had them tested, she caught it from another dog and it spread like a wildfire. Please be careful, and always have each dog tested each time. |
Yes, always test for Brucellosis. My vet has me test any new dog that I get and then repeat the test in 30 days to be sure because he says there can be a few days lag time between exposure and infection. Brucellosis is passed in infected blood and body fluids so it is possible to be exposed even if the dog has never been bred. Teresa |
