A question about breeding my dog On Wednesday I had a lady appoach me about using my dog for a stud for her mom's dog. She said that Dega was what her mom was looking for in a dog. I have no idea what question to ask or information I need. Can someone help me please?? Thanks Stephani |
Is your baby and the womans dog a good repersentation of the breed?? Are they both happy and healthy?? Start with this and see what the answers are! |
First, let me say that I am not a breeder and that if I were you I would definitely repost this in the breeder section but there is a lot to learn before you breed your dog to protect your dog. Some feel that a "stud" dog changes personality after they are used as a stud and they "mark" more, etc. Even if you neuter a stud dog he maintains this behavior sometimes. How old is your dog? There are tests to be done on the female and the male to make sure it is safe to breed, and then the actual breeding itself is a time when the stud can be injured if it is not done properly. Is your dog old enough to guarantee that he is completely free of genetic defects and do you know his pedigree far anough back to guarantee that his offspring will also be free of any genetic defects? I would be very careful if it were my dog and make sure I researched all of the ramifications and possible consequences before I would agree to do it. If you do decide to do it, I would make sure you have a written contract regarding the terms of the breeding ...like, what happens if the female doesn't get pregnant, are you being paid a stud fee or a puppy, maybe pick of the litter, what if the litter is only one puppy, what if the puppies don't survive...there are all sorts of things to consider. Congratulations...you obviously have an adprable baby! Good luck. |
