Nail trimming Does any one have an ideas how to get Duke to let me trim his nails? I think I have tried everything even treats. My husband tried to help me and then Duke growled at him. He does not growl at me but he will not be still and keeps running away! Any Ideas? |
I have tried everything myself. Now I have the vet do it. I have read on here that some posters take their dogs to petco, just for nail trim and ear hair pluck. good luck. I hope someone has a secret they can share with both of us! |
I let my vet do it. Its only a few dollars with no aggrevation. |
You can try when your pup is asleep. Gucci also fights me, I have my son hold her. I also have try when she asleep. |
I lay mine in my lap on their backs. Minnie will Just lay there, But Mickey will try and pull his paw away each time. |
i cut my dogs nail right after a bath and during grooming. i sit on a chair for my male sampson as long as hes high up he wont get down as your cutting tell him he a good boy and bad when sqirming. my female loves to be brushed and groomed she goes to sleep. if all else fails the vets office can do it at the next vet exam. |
I have had a hard time ever since I got my little girl. I think the breeder might have cut to close at one point..Anyway I have tried everything to cut her nails. Now what I do is....when giving her a bath, before I rinse her, I have my husband hold her up and then I cut...the nails are a little softer and I talk real calm to her telling her how good she is. I'm not saying this is real easy...sometimes she still pulls away but it is easier than trying to hold her or have someone hold her and trying to cut. ..I read that dogs feet are very sensitive especially the front ones...If your little one is still a pup try massaging his feet when you are holding him...this will get him used to you touching his feet...This might help...Good Luck! |
For those that don't like their nails cut give them treats. It has to be the ones they will die for. |
I have either the vet or the groomer do it. The few $'s is well worth it. |
I feel your pain! Both of mine actually misbehaved more with the vet than with me, so I do it at home now. The way I get my pups under control is to hold them under my arm like a football and then my boyfriend holds one paw and I quickly clip their nails. Hope this helps! :D |
Nail trimming sucks! LOL! Lucky growled at me the last time I tried & he's never done that before! What I do now though is while I'm giving him a bath & while he is wet, I trim his nails. Because he just sits there & lets me do anything while he is wet for some reason! :p Thats also when I trim his hair around his ears & feet. Kinda yucky to clean up, but at least he doesn't fight it! :) Good luck! And if all else fails, $5 and a vet will do it! :D |
I am going to write the book on nail trimming. I figured out a way to do it after struggling for almost a year. 1. Bring you dog for a walk outside on the sidewalk to keep them from growing as much and so they file down. 2. Cut their nails while you're standing. Hold them in one arm w/ them facing outward and use clippers in the other hand to clip quickly. They won't be able to fidget as much (well at least Stewie doesn't) because they'll be afraid of getting dropped. I hope that doesn't sound cruel. Now Stewie knows that the sooner he cooperates, the sooner I will leave him alone and put him down. I also give LOTS of treats when I'm done if he has behaved. |
