No More Crate Hi everyone! My Roxy is 10 months old and I still crate her during the day. If I need to run out during the weekend then I will leave her out of it and confine her to the living room and kitchen. She is pee pad trained so she will go on the pad even if I'm not there. I haven't tried it longer than say an 1 or 2 though. I really want to start to leave her out when I'm at work but I don't know if she's ready. How can I tell if she's ready? I'm not really worried about her chewing any of my stuff, it's more will she be safe that whole time. Thanks!! |
I don't know how to tell you what to do, but I teach and have always left Sophie out in my house (LR, kitchen, dining room) and not crated. She does just fine. She is 11 months and has done this since August. |
I found with most of mine by the time they were 10 -11 months I was able to leave them confined to a couple of rooms. Like you, I just mad sure the rooms were puppy proof. |
When I first moved Roxie out of her crate, I put her in the kitchen. I gated both entrances and she had her food, water, and bed in there with her. After a few months of that, I let her have free reign downstairs (kitchen, living room, dining room). I just make extra sure that there is nothing around that can hurt her, and I keep the bathroom door closed so that she can't get into the toilet or anything. I also have those plastic safety plugs in all the outlets. I am gone from 7am to 3pm everyday and she is fine. |
Poppy is 8 months old and is crated at night and when nobody is home. I am looking to leave her out of the crate when I am at work but would confine her to the kitchen. She is about 99 percent house trained but I have never left her free to roam alone so I dont know if she would potty in the house or not. I think I will wait until she is around 10/11 months old then confine her to the kitchen and see how she does. I think if Roxy uses her pee pads fine when alone then you could give her a little more freedom. |
Mine had full run of the house by that age. How to tell? How they do on the weekends, when you're home. |
