Biewer vs Biewer terrier In this months dog fancy magazine in the dog breeder directory there are Biewer and biewer terriers for sale. What is the difference? |
I don't think there is any, but I'm not experienced with Biewers. :) |
The BTRA is a registry for the BTCA, Taken from their website: ""The BTRA is the only registry set up for the Biewer Terrier breed. The Biewer Terrier Registry is a registry of purebred Biewer's and will not accept IBC registrations on dogs born in America as of Jan 2009. If you are purchasing a puppy ask that the puppy be registered with a reputable registry in America before purchasing."" The BTCA states their dogs here in America are of a different genetic marker than the True original Biewer Yorkshire A la Pom Pon. So therefore they have to have been mixed with something else. IMO The IBC will not accept Biewers from the BTRA. Also the BTCA is the club that the President got banned from showing for underhanded dealings. |
I'm sure the Biewer breeders on YT can answer this question better than me but in my opinion they are the same breed. It's a political thing related to registries. As I understand it - One camp says that Biewers are a parti colored Yorkie from Germany & registered with a German registry, they encourage occasional breeding with standard Yorkies to help prevent the gene pool from getting too small. The other camp says Biewers are a breed made from 3 or more different breeds to be a new breed, they have another registry that they use and they only do Biewer to Biewer breedings but have a small gene pool to choose from - they are working toward AKC registration as Biewer Terriers. Do we have any Biewer breeders who want to explain this better? ;) Teresa |
