Please help with knots so confused!!! Hi my yorkie has long hair, its beautiful.....however i cant let sophia wear a shirt or coat because when i take it off omg the knots are everywhere!!! she even gets knots from her harness on long walks.....does anyone have some advice for me??? is there a harness out there that doesnt do this??? lol thank you soooo much :):):) |
When Jewels had long hair I couldnt put the clothes on her because of matts. Now that her body hair is short she can wear clothes |
Try Chattiesmom. She has silk step in harnesses that are easy on the hair and she has beautiful colors available. She does a wonderful job on them. Here is her link: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-foxypups.html |
Here is a thread about dealing with clothes and hair tangles: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-any-tips.html My boys have long coats and we use Buddy Belt harnesses. If I don't take care in putting the harness on and arranging the hair just right, or if the boys pull on their leashes, then they do get small mats on their chest or armpits. I check for those daily so that they don't get out of control. The only clothes I put on the boys are winter coats. Sometimes I band their hair to minimize tangling. When I first take the coats off, they look like rats nests. I leave them alone for awhile and a lot of the hair goes back into place. Then I use the sharp end of a rat tail comb to undo any tangles that are leftover and brush with an ISINIS brush (avail on Amazon) misted with Vellus Anti-Stat. |
I understand your pain. Even though Poppy's hair wasn't as long as some other people's yorkies, it was still long enough to get really matted when wearing a coat or jumper. She hates being brushed too so I tend not to put clothes on her unless it is really cold outside. Last weekend I took her to the beach and it was freezing so she had to wear a jumper. I took the jumper off her when we got home and her chest was just one huge matt, I tried to brush it out but the brush would only go through the top of the matt and wouldn't go anywhere near the rest of it. :( She had her hair cut on Tuesday and I got her cut really short, so now she can wear clothes and she dosn't need to be brushed. :) I hear you can get silk harnesses and silk lined clothing for babies with long coats which don't matt half as much or maybe not at all! |
thank you all soso much im looking into the silk harnesses:):):):):) im very excited thanks again |
Put harnesses over a light weight T-shirt, (maybe sleevless and very short) for summer, and over coats and sweaters. Try sewing silk or satin inside of sweaters and coats. |
Just like Maximo, I only put Buddy Belts on Rio and Bullet. Before I buckle the harness, I take their pin brush and brush the hair through the harness so it all falls straight and no hair is caught up in the harness. After we get home and I take off their harnesses I have to brush them out again. Full coats are definitely more prone to tangling and matts. That's why Rio only wears clothes for special occasions and photo ops!!! |
Gizmo has a thick, silky coat thats mats super easy. I use VO5 conditioning hairdressing on him now and haven't had any problems at all since. Its cheap and you can find it at Walmart or most drugstores. Buy Alberto VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing, Normal/Dry Hair Online at drugstore.com |
