Yorkie 'wiping' her feet Do any of your yorkies wipe their feet across the carpet. Looks like she is cleaning or wiping each one of her feet separately on the carpet, many times on each foot. Backing up as she does it. She has done this since we got her, but not as often as now. Since we got the new baby Jett, Bella has been wiping her feet a lot more often, and is looking like she is showing him something. Wondering if it is a form of dominance?? It sure is cute, but not sure if I should stop the behavior or if she is just being playful. Any thoughts?? |
Lucy does it too. My Westie does it - outside - usually after hiking his leg on a bush or a tree. In his case, I definitely think it's a show of 'dominance' or like warning other dogs off. In her case, I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to be after she pees or anything . . just not sure. |
Roxie only does this outside after she poos, and when she comes inside from the rain or snow. |
Only one of my three do this (Buzz)...He comes running in, stops at the carpet, and shuffles all of his feet, really fast, getting them dry...I think it is one of the most adorable sites on the planet...I wish my girls would do it, and I wouldn't have to mop so often lol... |
Wow this is such a coincidence. I was going to ask the same question today. Rocco just started doing this the last couple of days. Aside from his regular beds I have a few small cushy area rugs down for him where he hangs out and usually chews his bones. the last few days before he goes on the rugs he does the wiping of his paws and backs up as he is doing it. |

Its very cute I start laughing when Bella does it and now that we have Harley she does it alot more and will go over to him and stand right in front of him and do it...letting him know his place...lol |
Well I'm glad Bella isn't the only one who does it. I know its not after she goes potty, or anything like that. She did it before Jett came home, just not as often as now. |

Yes it did make sense. Rocco does the marking thing like crazy outside... so now I guess he is marking his territory (his throw rugs) by doing his little dance. SO HAPPY he is not doing the other type of marking which he has never done in the house thank goodness!! |
Rio scratches her feet on the rug but Bullet never does. I think it's a sign of dominance or impatience (especially when I'm not giving her a treat fast enough!LOL!). I've read that there are scent glands in their feet and it's sort of like "marking." I know us humans are supposed to be the pack leader, but it's so darned cute when she does it! Sometimes she gets so carried away she practically falls over from all the side-to-side action! |
Silver does this also and we always laugh at her. But she only does it after she does #2. |

LOL that is funny...like I said I really don't think its dominance over us...its there territory...you know the old saying?...we don't own our Yorkies they own us..lol...even tho we are the pack leader...we are still there territory  lil stinkers Now if your dog peed right on you and did that lil show of dominance...than I would say he is telling you he is pack leader..that he has dominance over you...and you have a problem...he is not just being territorial. |
Lizzy wipes her feet everytime she comes in from outside. |
We call it "dancing" in our house. Teddy is a big dancer. He always looks over his shoulder to make sure we are watching and ready to cheer him on, "Woohoo, yeehah!" Sometimes he looks like he is doing the moonwalk. :p Here is a funny thread about other dancers, kickers, wipers: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ter-potty.html |
