2 yorkies in one crate I have 2 Yorkies, ages 10 months and 6 months. They are great playmates and are never separated. My question is this: Is it a bad idea to have them both sleep in the same crate at night? I have them in 2 separate ones at the present time, but I would like to get rid of the smaller one and have them sleep together. Do they need their separate areas, or would they possibly enjoy being together at night? Before bedtime each night, we put them in our bed and they snuggle together. Any thoughts would be appreciated. :) |
Hi, I would think if they get along well together it would be OK for them to sleep together. As long as the crate is large enough. I don't think I would get rid of the small creat, you might need it someday. :) |
Three I have 3 yorkies, two girls 7 months and a boy 9 months. They sleep together everynight. They love each other and huddle together. Dogs are known to be pack animals so I think it is normal. I am concerned that when one of the girls goes into heat they will have to sleep seperate. At that time I will keep the girls together and maybe treat him by letting him sleep in my bedroom. My dogs get upset when they are not all together. If I were you I would put them together in it while you were there to supervise at first. Tauni |
OH that is just so sweet!!! HOwever I am not much help about your question. I would think that it would be fine... Hannah |
if they get along i don't think it would be that big of a deal! |
It will be absolutely okay. IF! they are both altered or are the same sex. I have 5-7 sleeping together every night...When one of my females is in heat, she sleeps in our room in a crate til she is out of heat..They love to sleep touching each other..or us.. |
YAY! You all pretty much gave me the same answer. The crate is the large, rattan one. It's plenty big, in that together the girls only weigh 11 pounds. They are getting spayed in 2 weeks. Once they recover from that, I'll try crating them together at night and we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the input! |
If the crates big enough and they get along good. They should be ok. |
What you might try first is pushing the 2 crates together with the doors open and facing each other. Leave their beds, etc as they are. Then see how they do. Do they end up together or staying in their respective corners? I see nothing wrong with them sharing if they like it! |

I like that suggestion too! My babies sleep in their x-pen...and I used to have two seperate beds in there, but they always sleep on the same one...it is so cute when they are curled up. You can't tell where one starts and the other ends :) |
1 Attachment(s) :happyboun :happyboun  :yorkiesar Mine like to sleep with me. I wake up sometimes and Cricket has her face on my face!! When we go somewhere, we put Cricket and Bubba together. They snuggle and don't feel as lonely!! |

I would think crating them together is a great idea. With winter coming on, a little extra heat would be helpful. Right now I'm Maggie's crate partner. The only difference is that she uses my bed. |
They will be fine, my two babies have always been together in a crate - ever since I had both atleast. Theywill love it. Especially when it is chilly! :P |
