Fed up with the poop eating! I know this topic has been discussed here several times but I am hoping to find a deterrent for this! My Yorkie does not eat his own poop, only my other dog's poop. I have been feeding my other dog the poop eating deterrent pills for a few weeks to no avail. I read on here to try putting hot sauce on the poop, which I did, but apparently my Yorkie likes hot sauce! It seems like the pills and hot sauce worked for some people. I do try and pick up the poop as soon as my dog goes, but that isn't always possible. I wish I could find a cure! I wonder why Yorkies seem to like poop eating more than other dogs? My Basset Hound has never done it, but I did have a Basset Hound in the past who did. It's just so gross to me knowing what he does and then he tries to lick me! Yuck! |
This is indeed a nastly habit, but it can be corrected, and it isn't just the Yorkie breed that does this, but does seem to be most small breeds. If what your giving doesn't work, then try a different brand. There are many on the market. I have a Papillon and a Shi-Tzu/Maltese mix that like poop and since I started giving them and my three Yorkies Forbid , it has stopped. I don't like giving my girls things like this, but at the same time I don't want Spicy and Belle eating poop either. FOR-BID Stool-eating preventative (12 packets) |
Remy tried eating his own poop for a little while. I would wait until he went to eat it and I would say NO. When he didn't eat it I would praise him and give him a treat when he came inside and didn't eat his poop. Idk if this would work for everyone. He hasnt ate his poop anymore since. I have also heard feeding pineapple can get them to stop wanting the poop. Good luck |
Thank you, I will try that. I bought a deterrent at Petco. I looked at the ingredients in all of the different brands and it looked like they all contained the same thing. |
I read here on YT that people feed pineapple to their dogs to stop poop eating. Sammy used to do that but I guess he outgrew it. But when we are outside and he sees bird poop he goes over to it to smell it. It tell him No!!! It doesn't help that we have a neighbor that feeds pigeons and they poop all over, especially on my son's and my black cars!!! |
hmmmm That is all well and good if you are able to catch them before they get it. My first clue is horrid breath.:( |
Try spinach in there wet food . Some really like it But not when it comes out , |
What kind of dog food do you feed? Do you free feed? Sometimes I think its the dog food that gets them started on the habit. I obtained a little girl that the owners got rid of because she ate poop, they couldn't take it anymore( so sad). I started her on my brand of dog food and she stopped all on her own. I also made sure she got enough to eat and wasn't hungry. |
I would not let them have access to other dogs' poop. Be sure and keep the poop picked up, they can't eat what isn't there. Not to mention all the bacteria left behind from the fecal matter. |
solid gold has some stuff called sep stop eating poop, I have heard does work |
