Danger in the sky? My pup is only 3.5 lbs. I was wondering if I should worry about hawks or owls getting her? Some times a hawk will sit in my oak tree and watch my hens in their pen. Has anyone ever heard of small dogs getting attacked by birds? Thanks in advance. |
Yes, you should be concerned. Hawks, owls, and some vultures (the kind that kill their prey) will go after a small dog. Even if they can't carry off the dog, they can do a lot of damage trying. Supervise your pup closely. Hawks and vultures circle low over me when I am walking my 7 and 8 pound boys. |
ABSOLUTELY!!!! Hawks and owls could get your baby. I have to watch for the same thing here. Keep a very close eye on her. |
Oh my gosh, I would never let that baby go out by himself. Dudley is 4lbs. and I am so glad he has not learned how to use the doggie door. My others are little bigger and I don't worry about them as much as I do him. They don't like staying outside anyway and will come back in after they go to the bathroom but I would never let Dudley out by himself. Keep that little baby safe!!!!! |
There was a recent story in a newspaper here. An owl tried to carry off a Chihuahua... WHILE its owner was walking the poor baby! The little one was STILL ON THE LEASH when the owl tried to carry it off. The poor thing had terrible lacerations from the talons and the owner had trouble getting the dang bird to let go :( So yes, you need to be aware and careful of birds of prey with the little ones! |
Absolutely! A bird of prey can snatch a little dog and be gone before you know it. Tallulah's breeder told me about a pup she sold to someone nearby -- they have lots of hawks where she lives and one took the puppy just a few feet from where the new owner was standing. |
