Puppy aggression Remy is almost 6 months old(yay)! He has been socialized very well I believe. He gets along great with my schnauzer and my moms two small dogs. He also gets along with my brothers lab/golden mix. My husband has a boxer that stays In our yard. Remy hates her! She loves remy and wants to play but Remy growls, shows his teeth, and will try to attack her. Which is funny because he is about the size of her head. She wouldn't harm a fly. What can I do?? This is the only dog he has problems with :( |
Be careful because if Remy does hit a spot on your boxer then he could possibly kill Remy in defense. |

I don't know what to say. Have you tried to gradually get them together? Show your pupy that the boxer IS part of the family. Do all of your other dogs stay inside? But not the boxer. Maybe in some weird way your baby senses that the boxer is not aloud inside for whatever reason and is NOT aloud to socialize inside the house therefore something is wrong with him. I really don't know. I hope someone can give you a tip on this. Best of wishes. |
Have you tried introducing them on neutral territory? I've heard that is usually a good place to start... Also, give something REALLY good to Remy whenever the Boxer is around. It helps him associate the Boxer with really good things (like an extra special treat Remy really likes). A gradual adjustment sometimes works too. Try leaving a blanket or something to absorb their scents and then switch them and put the other dog smelling blanket in their favorite spots. This gets them used to the smell... then you work up to face to face contact in baby steps. Hopefully someone else has some things you can try, but this might be a place to start. Good luck! Edit: YAY my 500th post! :D |
Nala has a low tolerance for puppies. She loves all other dogs regardless of their size and will play with them and roll over, but as soon as a puppy comes and won't leave her alone she'll get yippy. I really don't understand why either? She's been really well socialized, and it's exclusively towards puppies (not all pupppies) though. Good luck! |
Thank you both! They were first introduced on neutral ground. I have even held them down and let them smell each other. Remy is just aggressive toward her, I don't know why he is so scared of her. I will try the treats and the blanket idea, that's a good idea. I hope one day they will be able to get along! Holly(boxer) is such a sweetheart and just wants to play and love Remy. But Remy is terrified. Maybe he will grow out of it. Fingers crossed! Thank y'all!! |
Boxers have an odd way of playing in general. Alot of dogs don't really like their style of play, along with Boston Terriers. I've found those two breeds just have more of an in-your-face style of play that alot of dogs don't tolerate very well. Have you tried taking the two on a walk together, to form some sort of bond? |
