Has anyone had this experience? Hello all, My Izzy refuses to go #1 the same place she goes #2... So she will pee on the pee pad, but will dump on the floor next to it. I have tried the disposable ones and the big washable kind. Any ideas? Has anyone experienced this before? SHe is 6 months old. Thanks! Chrstopher |
When Maximo was a pup, he preferred a fresh pad to poop and would wait for me to change the pad. He isn't quite so picky anymore, although he would prefer to go outside. You could try setting up 2 different pads, not next to each other, but fairly close. |
Hi Christopher, Yes, Sophie would do the same thing before she was housebroken. I don't think it's all that unusual. Sophie won't do all her business in the same place outside either. She will squat anywhere outside but when she has to poop she goes to the back or sides of our yard behind a bush or tree for privacy. ;) Jackie |
It is not unusual for pups to be picky and like a clean place to do their business. I noticed that while Rylie won't refuse to go on a dirty pad she will carefully place herself to not go where she has before. In addition, she does have her limits. 3 pees and she will not continue to go and I have to change the pad after every poop (which I do anyway 1. she used to like to pick it up/eat it so I wanted to get it right away, pineapple is helping with that, and 2. I don't want it to smell up the room!). I think the two pad suggestion is a good idea. |
Try putting down 2 pads for her...Bella is outside trained and Harley is only 17 weeks and I'm also outside training him as well so I don't use potty pads for training I do put 1 in Harley's play yard at night for him while we are sleeping...but Bella does pee in one area of the yard and will go to the other side of the yard to poop...and she walks very lightly in that area so she doesn't step in any...which is funny cause I clean up daily for her but I guess the smell is still there. so I'm sure that is why your baby is not using the same pad cause she doesn't want to step in it...so maybe 2 pads :) Good Luck! |
Thanks everyone! That may be part of the problem. She is in only 1/2 of the kitchen. She is SUCH a troublemaker/chewer etc. I have found it to be the only place I am fairly sure I can leave her unattended. She goes completely bonkers in the bathroom. Never closed in, but with a baby gate. I should by stock in the bitter spray! LOL Also, the vet today said to put her back on her original food. The FROMM puppy. Well, she HATES it. He said to wait it out. A couple of days. Its going to be a long couple of days... I bought some thighs to boil for the broth, hoping that might help. We will see. Antibiotics for now for the diarrhea. Good times... |

Buster also needs a fresh area to go so I am constantly changing his pads. He also starts out on the pad but travels while going #2 so sometimes he starts on but finishes off the pad. If Izzy is on antibiotics you might want to try giving her doggie acidophilus or plain yogurt to help get her system back to normal as antibiotics can cause diarrhea. |
Sugar has 2 pads. One for peepee and one for poop. She mixes it up at will :p |
I hope Izzy continues to improve. None of mine would ever go in the same place, so there ya go!:D |
all great advice, i too had same problem, helps to hear it is a puppy thing/yorkie thing & not something you are doing wrong. Only thing i can add is if you can use a doggie door do it!!!! Best thing i ever did, dogs do prefer to go outside if they can, pads are great for cold weather, & emergencies. i never let my guys use the doggie door unless someone is home, so pads are a great alternative. good luck, it gets better !!!!! |
I have to do the (2) pads also. And yes sometimes they get them mixed up, but they do like a clean area to do their business. And one usually want poo on the same pad if the other has poo'd on it. Can't blame them. LOL |

I also use two (2) pads.....a washable pad for potty and disposable pad for pooh, they are close to each other about a foot apart. Lil' Miss Izzie is extremely particular on where she goes. |
Bee used to do this. But not as much now |
