Is this typical behavior for a 5 month old? My little Mina has free roam of the kitchen and living room most of the day now that she is potty trained but she acts kinda weird. She paces around a lot and wants on my lap but then gets back up and she'll walk around like that until she finally goes to sleep. She has full access to her bed and it's shaded for her and a few toys around. She'll play for a while with me (fetch) but then she goes back to pacing. She eats well, sleeps and goes to the potty all normal but just acts like this... Is there something wrong or do I just have a quirky puppy? |
I know that some inbreds do that. They have some sort of pacing problem. I just took a look at pictures of Mina..She's a cutie!!! Where'd you get her from? my 2 month old is named Mina as well. :) |
I've never heard that to be an "inbred" problem but did find out this information: There are serious symptoms that should never be ignored in your dog. A symptom is defined as "any problem that can indicate an underlying disease" and may be your first clue to the presence of a life-threatening problem in your dog. 1. Pacing and Restlessness. In dogs, pacing and restlessness can be indicate pain, discomfort or distress. Restlessness can be associated with a condition called "bloat Bloating of the stomach is often related to swallowed air (although food and fluid can also be present). It usually happens when there's an abnormal accumulation of air, fluid, and/or foam in the stomach ("gastric dilatation"). Stress can be a significant contributing factor also. Bloat can occur with or without "volvulus" (twisting). As the stomach swells, it may rotate 90° to 360°, twisting between its fixed attachments at the esophagus (food tube) and at the duodenum (the upper intestine). The twisting stomach traps air, food, and water in the stomach. The bloated stomach obstructs veins in the abdomen, leading to low blood pressure, shock, and damage to internal organs. The combined effect can quickly kill a dog. Bloat and most commonly occurs in large breed or deep-chested dogs but does occur in small ones as well. Pacing and restless can be an indicator of a serious problem. The article gave a list of 21 symptoms..and PACING was the first one!! I'd take your puppy to a vet as soon as possible!! |
She is so precious. I am not sure about the pacing problem hope someone can answer that. |

I agree, this is not normal behavior, time for a vet check. |
Oh gee. When did this start happening with Mina? Could she just be up for a walk? Take her out for a walk or ask her if she wants to and see if you get an enthusiastic response. Roxy will sometimes pace past me and back again when really she is just up for a nice walk. Keep in touch and please, let me know how Mina is doing, okay? Thinking of you guys. |
This was 2 weeks ago. It was the same day I took her to the hospital and found out about the possible liver shunt. She's been fine since. In fact, she has her check-up this morning. I'll find out if/when she'll need surgery. I'll email you tomorrow to let you know what I find out. Have a great day!:D |
Pacing is also a symptom of Liver Shunt, may need to do a Bile Acids Test.... Sorry, didn't see your last post.... please let us know... and Good Luck... All the Best... |
Mina is doing GREAT! The doctor said her recover is amazing. She's gained 1/4 a lb and has a lot of energy. They're taking her off the antibiotic so it's just Lactulose and Hills L/D food now. They also said she may do well just with this and may not need surgery. So happy to get such good news! Thank you all for your help and support through this ordeal.:animal-pa |
I hope she doesn't need surgery. Sending my best...:) |
