Could the vet confirm?? Just had a question... As I've said before my boyfriend and I adopted Buster from a foster home. We were told her was a yorkie and thats what we think but we have some people saying that he looks like he could possibly be a mix or even a silky?? Is there anyway the vet could tell us if he was a yorkie for sure or not? Not that it matters much... I'd love him if he was part alien but i am just curious... Any ideas?? :) |
I think you can buy dna tests to see what breed your dog is. |
There is a lot of controversy as to the accuracy of the DNA tests, I'm not sure I would waste the money on them. Your vet might be able to give you an educated guess, but it would still be that. |
I vote for saving your money that the test would cost. Buster looks like a full Yorkie to me. I'm not sure how reliable the DNA tests are anyway. I don't think most people know the differences between Yorkies and silkies. |

I wouldn't waste my money either. Like you said it doesn't matter to you what breed he is. It doesn't change who he is. I think he looks like a yorkie to me! :) |
Thanks for the advice guys :) ... we'll just go with yorkie lol... Like I said I was just curious.. I'm def going to save my money! He's my baby no matter what!! :) |

I have been like you,,always 2nd guessing is he a yokie or a silkie...He is two years old now and I still find myself wondering....My vet of course says they are all Yorkies or part there of, she just doesn't put alot into the classification of the breed, as she says unless you are planning to breed or show them, they are family so why spend $$$ unless there is a medical reason to do so...as she says spend it on their dental or yearly exams....My suggestion is to take several photos and post them on here...these guys can give you more information and details than anyone I have encountered about this breed... |

Does this help you any Silky Terrier Vs Yorkshire Terrier - Proven Methods to Tell Them Apart Buster is adorable whether he is a Yorkie or a Silky. Bruce and I went away for a weekend several years ago. We left plenty of food and water down for the dogs (We had 3 Lhasas and 2 Yorkies at the time) and a neighbor to come over daily and make sure they had some human companionship and to let them out into the yard so the could run. When we got home, the dogs came running to the door to greet us. We said "Hi Hsun-Ni, Hi Tzu-Hsi, hi Tee-nah, Penni and Tuppence" then "ut oh, who are you? There was another little dog greeting us. One we had never seen before. It was a Sunday so the next morning I called the Humane shelter to see if anyone had reported the dog missing. Luckily it was reunited with its owner (well, maybe not luckily - the woman's husband who picked him up from us wasn't happy the dog had been found!) The dog looked like a Yorkie, but he was a Silky. A little girl had seen him running down the street and thought it was one of my Yorkies. She couldn't lift him over the fence, so went and got her daddy to put him in our yard. He came into the house when the neighbour had opened the doggy door to let our dogs out. Apparently it was the first time that the neighbour had been over and let the dogs out, so he had been with my dogs from the first day we left. I couldn't believe our neighbour hadn't realized there was an extra "Yorkie" |
I went to look at your album and Buster is a doll and looks all yorkie to me.:) |
Sometimes you get what I believe a yorkie friend told me a throwback and the yorkie is bigger but still a yorkie. My binky was a gift to me and my vet said 10lbs is what her ideal weight should be...she was the biggest yorkie I ever had but still a yorkie even though people will try to tell you its a silky. |
I have been told many times that Maggie is a silky. One day at the dog park a guy was adamant that she was a silky, started telling me why and wouldn't back down. Recently I have started looking online and asking the opinions of people who might know. I bought her as a Yorkie and paid a lot of money for her, however, I won't buy from those people again. Maggie is the best little girl anybody could ask for. She won't wear clothes but I don't care, saves me money. Just watching her stand at the front door, on her back legs, with her little head thrown back and bark til she can't bark anymore makes my day. To me, she is the cutest little thing, she is friendly, affectionate, funny, mischievous, I could keep going. What's not to love? I won't get the DNA test to find out. |
